Re: I guess it has to be a VAM 1?
Had I known, I'd have looked at it longer. But, yeah, this would be called a VAM 1. It does make for a good story. You can always put your own sticker on it

Re: Overdate VAM-20
and this would be an incredible die sequencing! clash vam14a, then vam 20, then v14a. what are the chances of that? and why? While improbable, the remarriage is one step away from confirmed. I need a strong version of VAM 14A in hand to positively settle this, but it's already close to conclusive. ...

If you have anything else you need graded by ANACS, toss this in with it and I'll correct the attribution and reholder it for free, Just note on the form that I said so.

The VAM 55 has the same reverse as VAMs 6C, 6D, 68 and 11/11A/11B - a real workhorse

Re: 1880-O VAMs 16, 17, 17A, 55 and 63 die progression in this order, too?
Coin was graded in 2002. Looks like VAM 55, which didn't exist at the time. Are the lines in the wreath leaves just to the left of the bow present? BTW, I own a VAM 16 and 17A. VAM 16 is clearly earlier in the progression. I think the whole stated progression needs a review with the various pieces s...

If you have contact with Lucian, please ask him to check his PM inbox. I had wanted to do this variety as an 'About VAMs' column over a year ago now when the discovery piece came thru ANACS. Good sized odd lump on the M of AMERICA and a thread like impression on the front of Liberty's hair. Listing ...

I went and did the very thing I suggested you try. Here's an example with several different hits. https://coins.ha.com/itm/morgan-dollars/silver-and-related-dollars/1894-s-1-ms61-pcgs-pcgs-population-351-3371-and-0-138-ngc-census-343-1683-and-0-39-cdn-1-150-whsle-bid-for-n/a/132202-23612.s?ic4=ListV...

Re: Came across this interesting denticle hit
It's a bag mark. If you feel differently and are convinced this is in the die itself, I invite you to scour the Heritage Auction archives and find another example that matches this exactly. While this may be an exercise in futility, along the way you may see a number of bag marks from almost every c...

Re: Do you see what I see?
That is inverted. Cool. If you're having trouble distinguishing top from bottom, it's easier to see with a few coins in hand. In nomenclature this is the Type IV Medium S that was used from 1879 thru 1900. There are years at the beginning and end that overlap, so doublecheck that you've got the righ...

Re: OT TRADE DOLLAR
I have the 75-CC in question on my desk right now. Looks like a genuine example of Coxe 2.1. I can see why I didn't like it the first time it came thru ANACS. Any raw cleaned AU Trade Dollar is still suspect, and having weird stuff in the die doesn't help. I graded it and verified the attribution. W...
