Re: A couple of FUN show purchases
As promised, my experience in getting to FUN: My original reservation was to leave Chattanooga Wed 1/4/23, with connection in Charlotte, to Orlando. As I was in line to get my boarding pass to Charlotte, I got a notification that the flight from Charlotte to Orlando was cancelled, due to weather. I ...

Re: A couple of FUN show purchases
I am glad to see others also did well at the show. I picked up a 1934D Peace dollar w/ SPL - PL obverse (the coin is toned, so it is excusable that the dealer missed it), and a Spanish colonial gold coin listed in Numista as only 5 known (mine presumably being #6). I will post later my experience wi...

Re: 1923-D VAM-1AH2 LDS or H3?
I would call this VAM 1AH2, there is not enough on it to justify another subvariety listing. On lower grade coins, a die crack on a coin of the same die state will appear larger that the same on a higher grade coin. See page on VAM 1C, EDS vs LDS. In any case, nice pickup! There are still good coins...

Re: Orlando FUN Roll Call
To each his own. For 1922D & 1923D VAMs, there are only a few which require a loupe to be able to attribute, so can often identified on an internet auction even with less-than-good photos. Many of these are exceedingly scarce, so the "thrill of the hunt" is real when a VAMmer finds one. Collect what...

Re: 1923 P with Die Gouge under R of TRUST
Hold onto it for now. After I get back from FUN, I will have more time to look at my 1923s. The coin appears to be listable, but I need to be able to distinctly show the die gouge in a photo, more than just a polished spot.

Re: 1926P Vam 6 or 7?
The difference between VAMs 6 & 7 has to do with doubling on the reverse, primarily in the leaves. VAM 6 is similar to VAM 2, although not as strong. VAM 7 has only slight doubling on the leg feathers, and doubling on the underside of upper olive leaf & berry. I need to redo many of my photos, inclu...

Re: 1922 P Peace Dollar Vam-7 with Die Clash??
Note that on VAM 15 doubling extends onto the top of shoulder, which is not the case on VAM 7.

Re: 1924 Bar D
I think the real question is whether to de-list VAM 1A2, as the die break occurred before the die gouge, vs changing VAM 1A1 to die break only & VAM 1A2 with die gouge. I invite comment on this, as I am here to serve the membership. I have been extremely busy with work, so have not had as much time ...

Re: 1923D Peace Dollar Vam 1AF2
I would call this an EDS VAM 1AF1, as the die chip NW of IN is not yet fully formed. As would be expected with any die break, there are multiple die states. I especially like 1923D, as most VAMs are listed for die breaks, and are easy to attribute. Enjoy the challenge of putting together a complete ...
