Re: Pittsburgh haul...

My cert. Does not match - dang! Looks like yours is still on the loose. Would be fun to play 'incest interest' ... following coins that pass from person to person outside of direct sales. I occasionally release a known but NAOH coin into the wild to see if/when it shows up again. Unfortunately I ha...

Re: Pittsburgh haul...

Crikey - a lot of nice 79S acid, and the 92O, 95O and 95S are the stuff dreams are made of... Be curious to learn if the 79S VAM-73 has a registery number of 2570360-004 and was bought in Pittsburgh? If so, this was one I let back into the wild a few years ago. Not a rare coin that I remember but a ...

Re: Explanation of "overbuffed" dies

Chatted with some coin folks in the UK and they agreed 'overbuffed' was not the correct term, too. They liked the fun varieties I've shown them: 1880-O VAM-45A, my 1880-O VAM-81 DC, 1881-O VAM-16, 1883-O VAM-1C1 and 1C2, and the 1890-O VAM-13A amongst others... Trying my best to generate excitement ...

Re: Pittsburgh

I've threatened to do a book or catalog of my collection of pieces with coining presses and the like. Seems like a project for when I retire or semi-retire at this rate. The jetons are surprisingly affordable for the most part. These two are both originals rather than later restrikes. Both are silv...

More lightly: We all might benefit from admitting we're all part of a community with divine aspirations, run by three Saints (two Johns and one David), one of which is also a self-described Lord Shiva (at least the destroyer of our dreams), we pray everytime we're sitting at the bourse altar, er tab...

Doubling of the eagle's head identical on mine... as is the doubled "In" shown on the VAM-10 page. Can't wait to hear from a recovered @fogie when he's back in the saddle...

Re: 1880s I think vam24 reverse is same as vam 10

I'm wondering if the reverse was first used for the 24 and then the 10 as the PL coin I have in hand has all the same rev PUPs as yours with the exception of the center of the bow being just as polished as the rest of the fields and very clear (and mirrored in this case!). A few pics to show what I ...

Re: 1880s I think vam24 reverse is same as vam 10

I believe you're on to something. I've picked up a PL VAM-10 recently with the obverse clearly showing the crossbar - and definitely differing that your coin - but the reverse PUPs you've captured in your pictures are identical to what I see on the reverse of my coin. Supposedly different - C3k and ...

Could you show any close-up pictures to show any of the major features? Love to compare them with the 22s I have.

A tough and fantastic find even if cleaned.

Looks like a 3A to me even if not everything matches up completely... Love to hear from others on this.

Looks like I wasn't the only one being dogged by flipping pictures?

Agree with @Unc90o as a likely solution.

Nice year and mint for some fun finds.

Trying these damned scribbling scratch pictures again to get them upright.

Thanks, @rhodes6467. I did think feed finger damage but they somehow look different. Mostly oddity and not much more, but interesting to me.

Dang it, I don't know why the leg pictures got rotated 180 degrees on me... Oh well. I also see some fun over by the AMERICA and right star -- don't think it die related but could be some fatigue of it or the planchett itself, don't know... 1886P_0070_die-or-planchett-fun-1.jpg 1886P_0070_die-or-pla...

1886-P VNA possible addition - for future die study

The VNA page for this year and mint ( http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com/wiki/1886-P_VNA_varieties ) shows a nice coin with what might be considered a precursor of the eventual wild practice of scribble scratching (or scribbling scratching if you prefer that term). Yes, I know t...
