Re: 1889 without VAM
Many thanks to morganman, impairedsquirrel & andywoj00 for responding. I have examined once again all ‘normal left’ dates, with & without doubled ears with the following results: VAM- 1E Normal Left Date, Denticle Impressions Below Arrow Feathers: The CIH exhibits no denticle impressions. VAM- 1F No...

1889 without VAM
This piece does not appear to be among the 1889 VAMs. It seems that it may never acquire a VAM because its characteristics are not easily visible with a 10x loop at a coin show. It is one of the coins in my inventory & I thought it might still be of some interest…additional reverse images may be fou...

1889 VAM54 ?
Is this an example of 1889 VAM54? Or do I have it wrong…again? Additional images in follow-up post.

Re: 1886 VAM # ?
I can't give an answer to your query, but, I can sort of rule out V3A. If you can examine the V3A webpage...look at the reverse of the large coin image...notice that the clash mark on the eagle's right wing emerges from the wing and proceeds upward to the right of the upright of the 'N' of 'IN'. In ...

Re: VAM52, 1C1 1C2??
The way I am reading it, it would be a C2 since the denticles are missing from wear. C1 has the denticles. I am not as wise as most here. Just trying to help. Thanks blaircountycoin for your take on my confusion. I am inclined to agree with you. The problem I have is the following: The comment draw...

VAM52, 1C1 1C2??
The Coin In Hand was originally attributed as an 1889 VAM52. It seems that it has changed via the new VAM system to VAM1C1 or VAM1C2. The comment section in 1C1, 1C2 is opaque to my understanding and as a result, I am at a loss to decide which it is. The CIH exhibits the gouge at the neck & 2nd star...

1887 VAM4
Just a decent 1887 VAM4 from the collection...with an additional image of the ear which is not shown on the VAM webpage. This example appears to be the EDS with die cracks absent. The ear itself is a bit unusual with the area inside to the right of the "fill" exhibiting a large raised lump...below t...

Re: 1886VAM?
When examining this coin the third time around…I was looking for evidence of a clash mark by the neck-jaw junction. I rotated the coin 90° & a discontinuity caught my attention. When seeing it, I had difficulty believing what I saw. First…the coin appears to me to be an MS63…less charitably MS62. Ne...

Re: 1886 O VAM?
Thanks to fogie, DHalladay, keilg1 & LateDateMorganGuy for responding. It appears that VAM8 is the correct attribution. I would be completely satisfied if it could be established that the strong raised diagonal line between the cotton bolls or the doubled arrowheads (or of course both) could be conf...

1886 O VAM?
The 1886 O CIH imaged below exhibits a ‘normal’ set date with a high 6. It also exhibits a mint mark set upright, slightly high & slightly left. The likely VAM appears to be VAM8. It is difficult to verify VAM8, as it has no images on its webpage with which to compare the CIH. Additional images in t...
