Re: New 89-O "Oval-o"... Or am I seeing things??

Classic VAM rite of passage. We have all been there on that head scratcher.

Re: I have a bajillion for Leroy, how about you...

Are folks running some of their potential discoveries by other experts and date specialists? Especially during this dead time, it can save a lot of time (yours and Leroy's eventually) to trim down the piles. It is not too likely that there will be claim jumpers in the wings if discoveries are expose...

Re: VAM Repository

Unfortunately, a number of my discovery coins were very high grade, rare DMPLs, which I had to let go - generally not in variety specialist hands. The positive is that SOME of them have appeared, before or since, in major auctions and there may be decent images. (That is one reason auction appearanc...

Re: VAM - Updated Price Guide

It is in progress. I am exceedingly busy these days but it is coming together and we will be sure it is authoritative with the appropriate inputs. I know the market is floundering because of the long lack of one. (I just lost a fistful of dollars selling a one grade below the top pop Top 100 PCGS VA...

1900-S VAM-3A - Find one. Or perhaps I should say, find the one imaged in the VAM phonebook to get it delisted.

Re: California Pedigree

Lloyd was a wonderful guy. Had a subtle sense of humor. He drew a lot of people to him because he was spending money, really big money. But most of us in the VAM community who knew him saw him as both another quirky VAM collector and a juggernaut to get VAMs accepted in the larger circles. He is als...

Re: SSDC 8TF registry question

Let's be practical about it. If a listed VAM that we generally feel strongly does not exist is not in the Registry and someone claims to have one, that would be one more reason it would be seriously considered for inclusion. We all would need the evidence and learn something valuable one way or the ...

Re: SSDC 8TF registry question

Yes. Someone, I guess, needs to assemble the necessary set of coins and send them as a group to him (when he is again ready for submissions) to get the listings resolved. However, here we can simply put notes on the pages to the effect. At the registry, we really can't maintain spots for them. For t...

Re: SSDC 8TF registry question

This is a case where we are reasonably sure, regardless of the listing. Should a VAM-22, as listed, come up, it would get a lot of attention and would be added with great fanfare. When the registry started, I made it a point to exclude such a coin from the beginning: the 1888 VAM-16. I had accumulat...

Re: 78 V9 with rotated dies

Yeah, that would have been astounding, as the clash was in the standard position (for the 9A), the presentation strikes were not rotated, and there were not many made to have it rotate and restore.

Unlisted E Clash Dollar

Well, to be fair, it is unlisted because it is not a Morgan or Peace dollar. I have a 1795 Flowing Hair dollar with such a feature. The base die variety BB-13, is not one of the rarities (though how common are gradable Flowing Hair dollars). The LDS (Die State II) is another story. It is the only si...

Re: new pixs for 1883-S VAM 4 page

At one time, I had identified that as a key for the date. When I finally located one, it was in a lofty grade like PCGS MS67. Had to pass and look for another. Took a while. When I did, I was no longer building sets but turned a major VAM collector onto it. It was a PCGS MS63. Found a PCGS MS64 as w...
