Re: 1921 B over S in "PLURIBUS"

As already suggested, determining which VAM this is would help, With your new scope, try to capture some images of the 'scribble zone'. This spot is the area in the upper tailfeathers just inside the eagle's right (viewer's left) leg.

Re: 1878p Vam 31, 110 and 40 obverses

The comment is misleading and an object lesson in not taking everything on any wiki site as gospel. There are six listings, but that is not the same as six dies. I'll edit the page in a couple of minutes. This is also a good opportunity to brush up on reading VAM die nomenclature. 40, 31 and 110 sha...

Re: Correcting incorrect 1891-S VAM-3 Die #3 comments?

Reading thru all this, it looks like someone found matching markers between the Die 1 and Die 3 reverses. I'd want to see all three dies side by side to confirm or kill the listings. I think the entire listing needs a revision. We are trying to get away from this Die 1 , 2 and 3 etc business. If it'...

Posting a picture of the marker from your example to this thread would be a good start.

Re: 1884-CC VAM 5...A?

I've got an example sitting on my desk in a virtually identical stage. I just see typical clashmarks without any hint of letter transfer. I added a comment to the VAM 5 page about some examples having clashmarks with no letter transfer

Re: 1879 VAM ?

79 Phillies represent the deep end of the pool. Very few listings present easy answers. The date is riddled with multiple dies that have remarkably similar features. Unless you can capture images of some die markers you're going to get nowhere with this one.

Reading over this page a couple of times will save you a considerable amount of personal aggravation.

1896 VAM 36

I was asked about this piece earlier today. I had the discovery piece come across my desk a couple of years ago and this is one that has fallen thru the cracks. I don't have the write up handy, but here are some images. The odd gouge on the M of AMERICA is its most noteworthy feature

Yeah, that's supposed to be there. And on the VAM 6 too.

Re: 1921 B over S in "PLURIBUS"

Is the B at normal relief or is part of it lower than the letters on either side?

Is the thing that looks like an S raised or incuse?
