Re: Leroy Letter, nah... Leroy 2-page ARTICLE !! :) :) :)

I just renamed the VAM 1B1 page as 107 and 1B2 as 107A. The 107 page seems to have pictures from both 107 and 106 on it, so you'll have to sort those out. The 106 page hasn't been created yet, which is why its link on the 79-S page is red. It will turn blue automatically once the page is created. If...

Re: Leroy Letter, nah... Leroy 2-page ARTICLE !! :) :) :)

Chris, Are you going to setup the new pages? For the ones that simple changed VAM number, I can rename the old page and have the Mediawiki framework leave a redirect link to the new page. When you click on the old link (VAM 1Bx), it will take you to the new page and additionally say "redirected fro...

This is the story of most clashed Ms, so it seems. That part of the reverse field seems very prone to picking up bag marks.

Re: 78P ECM - Needs confirmation !

I see what you mean, as the 't' looks like it's too close to the partial 's' to be part of the same clash. I still only see one 't', however, and nothing on the pictures of the subject coin that make it any different from what Leroy has already described.

Re: 78P ECM - Needs confirmation !

I wouldn't send this to Leroy. His VAM 2A pictures clearly show a single clash with weak letter transfer, and specifies that it is faint. VAM 2 is one of the more common die pairs and later die stages would have this clashing starting to wear off. I think I can see the 't' clash in your photos, and ...

Re: Neat original GSA Hoard commercial...

So who's going to spring for the $20 to watch the whole thing? I wonder when this was made.

At 1:59-2:02, you can see what might account for some of the no-grades, in addition to wheel marks.

Re: PDF files from the old VW

Dennis (@DHalladay) let me know that permission to post VAMView was given to the SSDC for SSDC members through the registry. He would have to consult with Logan and Tim before granting permission in a publicly accessible venue.

Re: 1922 Vam 5A3 Value

In general, the R-number should never be used to ascertain value. It is an estimate at the time a variety is first listed, and can sometimes be way off. The VAM 5A3 is a tough variety, though.

Re: 1921-D Jet O

You have an early die stage of the VAM 1AT. Not as desirable as the one with the full break (not a gouge) on the O, which is pretty scarce.

Re: 78P ECM - Needs confirmation !

Not sure what ECM is besides Electronic Countermeasures, but based on the full shot of the reverse, the coin you picture is a clashed 78 VAM 2. I can't see any letter transfer in your pictures, but if it's there, then it's VAM 2A.

Upload image sizes

I've made some changes to the way image uploads to the forums work. You should be able to upload a file that is up to 8 MB, but any image will be resized down to no more than 900x900 as it's uploaded so that it fits in a size that is reasonable for the message board. Uploading as a JPEG file will gi...

Re: Tag a user

I looked into a "like" feature, but there's only an extension that's still in development that does this, and it seems to have a few quirks yet to be ironed out. I'll keep my eye on it in case it is ever a released phpBB extension, at which time I'll probably install it. Also, when tagging a user, y...

Tag a user

I recently added a feature to "tag" a user in a discussion. Those that have used the PCGS forum or CoinTalk are likely familiar with this already. If you want to draw a specific person into a discussion that might not have responded already, you can type an '@' sign and start typing their name. A dr...

Re: Leroy Letter, meh... Leroy 2-page ARTICLE !!! :) :) :)

How does that work JB, with Leroy letting 1B stand as a catchall? I'm sure this has happened before. Do we just start using the new designations only with 1B being a sort of zombie throwback placeholder instead of killing it outright? Pretty much. The highest profile VAM that this happened to is th...
