Re: When some PUP's are missing?
Thanks for the advise, and the humor. I read as you suggested, the Vam 19 fits the bill. I guess since I saw half of the die crack of the 19A and the 19 has no mention of the crack, I really wasn't sure what pushes it to the 19A. I am still working on my photo skills, consistent lighting is my stumb...

When some PUP's are missing?
Please contribute your thoughts on the subject of missing PUP's on a coin- Example- I Have a 1884 Narrow O. In looking though, the closest I have found is a 19A.... It has the rust spots, wheat leaf gouge, date set with doubling and the vertical die break on the leaf cluster. It does not have the Di...

Re: Favorite Non-List VAM
So I will bite. 1899 O v20 I bought a raw 1899-O that was a frosty 62-63. When I got home and really looped it, I found the reverse was spectacularly doubled from 10 o'clock to 1 o'clock, all words and the eagle in that pie cut, and the search was on! I think that there is this kernel in the back of...

Don't Forget, today is the day at mid-day that all raw coins should stand on rim's! But please experiment with on the R-1's!

Re: WWYD? Keep or Return?
Very good Sage advice. I have returned the coin. My goal is a minimum of MS-60, except that I am a working guy and doubt that my pocket will achieve that on certain coins of course. I play the raws for the deal of course, not to accumulate problem coins. That is a mistake, no doubt, and I don't want...

WWYD? Keep or Return?
Looking for advise.. Recently "won" a raw 1882 O Vam 5 on eBay @ $100. Picture showed some field scratch on obverse, slight toning on front, but all in all at least AU-55. Seller is reputable, 99.9% positive, offers returns, has over 300,000 sales. Coin was sold as pictured, no grade implied. And I ...

As a postscript... Andy posted on the board the record sale recently of ..
1893-S PCGS 67 CAC $2,086,875.00 w/Buyer's Fee
And the current closest is a cool $1.25M on the NGC, unchanged since Sept 2016

Re: NGC VAM price less than non VAM?? REALLY
Values with NGC needs some timely attention. I believe if NGC were to focus more attention to keeping values up to date, they would generate more raw grading work for them, a win-win. They may be contractually tied to only post sale values generated through their site? IDK But again a coin is only w...

82s Gem and 23 Morgan
Promised this Gem, so here it is. I picked it up for $40 for fun, but wow. This 1882s is permanently uncirculated, well struck, highly reflective with little to no bag marks, and at least a 63 if not better. I will do my best to VAM it out, but pic's will be hard. Doe anyone know who made these luci...

Re: Date on PCI Slab?
Thanks DarksideVam- The Ebay heads up makes me feel better about the seller, I appreciate those that follow the rules! Thanks DHalladay- Narrowing down more of the vintage gives me more confidence in the grading. And Thanks Messydesk- The original attribution was right at one point. The Only reason ...

Date on PCI Slab?
Is their any way to get a date or year-ish of a PCI Slab? And why wouldn't seller disclose the slabbing and grading this coin? Back Story: Bid and won this on Ebay. It was simply listed as Estate Find 1921 - D with (2) close up pics. The seller has "coin" has part of his name and over 50,000 sales. ...

Re: 8 Tail Feather Reverse Images
Thanks for the images.
I am trying to focus in on the little feathers that are near the wing base and the legs, where the famous "comma" feather is.
I am finding that these feathers evolved differently in the VAMS and it helps to at least pin down which stage of reverse die was being used.

Is there a link to all of the different little "winglets" on the reverse dies of the 8 Tail Feather? It would be nice to have 1 image or page that displays them all.

Re: USPS PCGS lost package
Glad to hear your coins found their home.
Gifting your USPS carrier is always a great idea, they remember who did and will go that extra mile. Mine has come twice on occasion if a second package shows up at the post office after his first run was made.

Re: USPS PCGS lost package
This is horrible and I admit my biggest fear with my raw coins. The time and expertise to get to that point, and poof, the quest begins again. I will watch as well, and I hate to say, check the local pawn shop.
