Re: What is the correct term?
Ok! Let’s look at a couple more facts. Shown below is page 2 of your September 2020 letter from LVA and jumping down to paragraph 4 it shows you sold the soft die theory to LVA and he bought it. In the letter he does mention the possibility of the 1889-P VAM-23A/VAM-23B as not going through the die ...

Re: What is the correct term?
So what other plausible cause is there for the clearly atypical clashing and erosion this obverse experienced? How do you known an improperly hardened die can't strike a bunch of coins? The theory (and yes, it is a theory) about a clash involving a softer than normal die is a possible explanation f...

Re: What is the correct term?
Let’s keep in mind that the theory, improperly annealed obverse die for the 1889-P VAM-23A/VAM23B has not been proven. It is just a theory. When one let’s, the die do the talking another story starts to emerge. There is no doubt that the obverse die for VAM-23A/VAM-23B shows major die stress (weakne...

Hi Alan,
Understand. He was a HA Legacy client and so am I. Just trying to figure out if they offered to come out to your house and if so, is that extra?

Re: Coin Divesting
Hi Alan, Sorry to see you selling most of your collection, but we all must cross that bridge at some point in time. Question for you, when you contacted HA, did they offer to come at to your house at look at your collection? I helped a friend's widow bout a year ago liquidate his collection and HA c...

Re: Registering finds in the 'wild' versus bought attributed coins?
Prompted by the recent post - http://www.vamworld.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=6543 by @vampicker, that should be lauded and applauded!, as well as the story I shared ( http://www.vamworld.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=6541 ), I am curious to hear opinions from others of the following thought. The...

Re: Calling ALL VAMMers - Rotated dies
Since shortly after the SSDC registry went live there have been a number of folks that wanted a 'Rotated Die" set added. That may come to fruition. I need to know what VAMs are known with rotated dies - Please let me know if you know..... Thanks! There already is a Morgan Dollar rotated die set in ...

Re: 89P- 23B, but what stage?
Appreciate this post because I continue to learn. Been hunting the same hunt unsuccessfully but holding out hope for that elusive 23A in all her glory. Gary If it happens...you will never forget it. I still remember when I found mine (local coin gallery). It was just like yesterday. Dreams do come ...

Re: 89P- 23B, but what stage?
VAM-30 for sure. The neck, closed 9 in the date and no die roughness around E & P sealed the deal. The die roughness kind of looks like VAM-23B, (die sequence 2-4) but it's not. Stay safe.

Re: 89P- 23B, but what stage?
Can you take a close-up of the E & P on the Obverse? It is Die sequence #3 for sure. The photo's of the E & P will nail the die stage of die sequence #3 down.
