Re: OT Grading Sets
Quite a few years ago I finally finished a grading set of 1895-S in PCGS holders – every grade from Poor-01 to AU58. I still have the set. It was the best grading education I've ever had.

Re: 1921-D VAM-1J LDS Values
Not being on a popular collecting "list" seriously raises the "who cares?" question for VAM 1J. And the huge run-up in higher Mint State 1921-D prices since covid (MS64s used to be $100, now they're often over $400) makes premiums a guessing game for just about any 1921-D VAM. Plus, from what I have...

Re: 1921-D JOH-25 Small Breaks D, S and S
The huge problem is, the 1921-D Die Crack Break Guide is horribly not up to date. Only 77 different VAMs are represented in it, out of the 228 that currently exist.

Re: 1921 S vam 1B3 in AU53
I have no prices in my database for VAM 1B3 (which is scarce)... I only have prices for 1B3A (which is ultra-rare). I am skeptical about which VAM the cheapest two sales in the list below actually were, because the prices weren't appropriate: 1921-S 1B3A 62 PCGS Aug-12 H $3,055 1921-S 1B3A 55 ANACS ...

Re: does 21-D JOH-22 have a VAM #?
small lines in left wing.jpg The first scribbles photo shows something I have never seen before. Some of the little diagonal gouges indicated across the bottom show up individually somewhat regularly on both 1921-Ps and Ds (especially #1, #2, #5 and #8), but never all together and in such an appare...

Re: How Morgan Dollars Became Indian Ruppees
Fascinating to learn this!
I knew the U.S. sold a LOT of silver to Britain during WWI for geopolitical reasons in India, but did not know it was used to make coins. We almost need to consider the 1919 Rupee for honorary status in the Morgan Dollar set.

Your die cracks + feed finger lines tells me it's 1CL2.
Pretty coin.

Feed finger gouges 'wandered' a bit during the course of their lives; photos on the attribution pages aren't a must match exactly proposition.

'21-D JOH-22 photos (UPDATE)
I know it's an esoteric question, but with all the excellent cracks on both sides I'm hoping maybe someone has already sent one to @vampicker or @messydesk for evaluation.

Re: Please consider for DISCOVERY
He is just following the new DC guideline of posting it here for more eyes to evaluate first, as opposed to simply sending it to @vampicker or @messydesk where it might slow things down in their lives. I say bravo for following directions.

Rotation alone does not make for a VAM. Other factors specify which VAM it is; rotation is just a bonus.

Re: 1921-D VAM 1G: are these still unknown?
I'd just be guessing, and doubt that would be particularly helpful at this point. At a minimum, I'd want to see more examples for some context. Do these occur on other die pairs? In other series? Thanks John. I haven't seen them on other die pairs or in other series... just on VAM 1G. But it is on ...
