I have seen this die state paired w/ 2 different obverse dies, the later of which is the EDS obv die of VAM 4 die states 1 & 2.

Your 1926S appears to be a die state of VAM 6, look for slight doubling on the right side of rays above OLL, and on the right side of leaves 2 & 6. The EDS of this reverse does not have these die scratches.

Nice pickup!!! As you have noted, this is a very rare coin, the 2 in the Registry are the only ones of which I am aware.

None of the NGC coins have the notation of discovery coin. They won's put the VAM designation on a Peace dollar if it is not in the Top 50, although I don't know about the Elite 30.

First of all, welcome back! I got my first grandchild earlier this year, so I have not been as active in VAMs or on this site as I would have liked. While I have often been the "Crusher of Dreams" in getting a listing killed, I have had the chore of occasionally getting my own discoveries eliminated...

I would agree with not paying a premium for this one in a circulated grade. Uncs are distinctly scarce however.

There is a die state of 1CQ which has a collar clash in the area shown, but other die markers don't match. Nice pickup!

I don't recognize this as a listed VAM. Leroy won't list a clashed die unless it is dramatic - double or triple clashed or extending into UNUM. Likewise, he won't list a coin for a die crack unless there is some displacement - look carefully for any deflection in the field especially in the left upp...

I will guess lamination also, I have seen similar feature on a few Peace dollars. If someone finds another, then you have a major find!

It appears that the die & coin are worn, but it appears to be a VAM 2. What you see on the obverse is machine doubling.
