Re: 1879-S VAM page update.
Well, I’m venturing into territory best traveled by experienced VAMmers, but maybe a newcomer’s input will be of some value. I really like the current VW site. There is very little I don’t like about it and maybe that just means I am too new to know better. I am frustrated by those pages with no pho...

Raybob,
I checked all my 22-P’s and don’t have it. I found a few higher up on the rarity scale but no VAM-1’s. Maybe it’s rarer than we think.

Re: 1926-D die break LL with very rusty obverse
It’s not pitting or rust because the areas aren’t raised on the coin. It’s frightening that my mind failed to register this most basic fact. Also, as I read in Definitions, pitting and rust are also more likely to occur more on the reverse because that die faces up and is more likely therefore to ho...

Re: 1926-D die break LL with very rusty obverse
I looked at “planchet” in the VW definitions section and saw two kinds of planchet issues. First is a cracked planchet. That’s not the issue on this coin. Second is planchet lamination. The rectangular swath through the bun and hair may be lamination. Everything else looks like rusty die impressions...

Re: 1926-D die break LL with very rusty obverse
There also appears to be a long, raised rectangular swath from bottom of T, through bun, to second ray from the right. This is difficult to photograph but I provided two. It appears to be a continuation of the die break but cuts across the bun and hair at 45 degree angle at the base of the T.

1926-D die break LL with very rusty obverse
This 1926-D has die break through LL on reverse (VAM-1H based on that) but the obverse has large rust patches at numerous locations and a die break from bottom of T through Y to rim. There is no mention of a rusted obverse die, pitting, or excessive die wear in the 1H listing. So, I am wondering if ...

Another 1923-S, die file lines and pitting I-B
This seems to have the die files lines and pitting between I and B in LIBERTY. Maybe VAM-1AU. Only one photo on the VW 1AU page and it's tough to tell whether I have a match. There is raised metal and a dot on top of the hair bun left of the T with heavy die file lines all around it. I don't know if...

Re: 1887 VAM-1M, Looking for Confirmation
Thanks for quick responses. I did some sloppy VAM detective work here. I'll post the right side up bust tip photo later today and finish looking at the remainder of VAMs, especially VAM-10. In the meantime, here's are full obverse and reverse shots. There is a horizontal threadlike impression on my ...

Re: 1887 VAM-1M, Looking for Confirmation
The more I look at the VW 1M Page photo the more I think I’ve got a different thread impression on my coin.

1887 VAM-1M, Looking for Confirmation
I'm taking a break from the Darkside, but only temporarily; having lots of fun there in Peaceland. However, examining an 1887 Morgan, I think I've zeroed in on VAM-1M Threadlike Impression Wing. The stock photo on VM is difficult for me to identify the threadlike impression. What I am seeing on my c...

Re: 1922 Unknown VAM, Strong Obv Doubling
Went back and reviewed machine doubling vs. die doubling. I should re-read that section at least once a week. While the shelf effect, especially on the Y and 2, are clearly machine doubling, I'm still hung up on the tripled rays. Possible VAM-2M, but I will need in-hand verification by JB or ANACS. ...
