Re: Unusual 1900-S, vam not found yet?

Not sure of the VAM # but I think this specimen is far too beat for an AU-58/55.
May even be cleaned .Good luck either way though.

Re: 1900 o Die crack

Welcome to VW.

All Morgan and Peace Dollars are VAMS. It's just a matter of classifying each one.

You should look at the VAM-23 series to find yours. VAM-23C possibly. But you have the coin in hand and can then break it down to the actual variety. :)

Re: One more For TEXAS

I wish I had that luck. I have yet to run into someone selling coins at an auction or yard sale in Texas. Might need to go out into the wild or such. Not to be a party pooper on you hoping it's an MS specimen but the first thing I noticed about it was what looks like a Rim Ding at 2:...

Re: Back from Leroy

Nice Submission JR and congrats.

That VAM-117 sure has a crapload of clashes alright.
I swear I can see 5 and then sometimes 6 clashes...either way, I start to go cross-eyed when focusing too much on them. :)

If there was letter transfer, it appears to have been filed out looking at all the file lines going every which ways. :|

Re: 1885 Morgan obverse die - not cancelled

Hi and welcome to VW.

Hate to tell you but that is a fake die.
The fonts are puffy and the date is off as well.

Gouges in the letters "P" and "U" along with the large break at the back of hair.

The denticles look like crap as well.
Don't buy it.

Those are awesome Ash!

Just wondering what if anything was going thru the worker's mind as he cancelled those dies.
Did he ever think they would be valuable all these years later?

The mint certainly knows what to do to increase sales. I used to think the clashes were by accident, now I'm not so sure.

Nice specimens regardless.

Re: Can't quite place this 1904-O vam, new vam perhaps?

Absolutely DO NOT rely on die cracks as these are not reliable markers. There could be different stages where cracks may show up, get worse or entirely disappear due to a die change in marriage.
Take this VAM for example, VAM-30 and VAM-30B.
It's the same thing, only different.
