Re: O/T Registered Mail is S-L-O-W

I had a registered package show up at the PO Wednesday. It took the clerk 3 days to find the key to the "cage" where it was locked up. It's not just the mail that's slow.

Re: 1921 S Morgan with Over Polished Obverse and Reverse

The first one that popped into mind was VAM 1CI, but this looks not to be that one.

Re: 1884 O Questions

I seem to struggle with the vertical placement lines. I’m not sure they’re really needed, but if I line the inside/outside edges of O and D at 85 degrees, I get something repeatable. I think this is the jist of what you’re getting at? Pretty much. If you look at the pictures I've posted and used on...

Re: 1884 O Questions

Close. There's a couple different grids used here. Horizontal lines at the bottom of the ribbon and top of D-O help determine High-Low and tilt. There's an example found in Vam 101 under MM positioning but your example could also be used if you use the bottom curves of the ribbon as your guide. Her...

It took awhile to figure out grid, does this help?
To show mint mark rotation, align the bottoms of the curves of the ribbon with a horizontal line in the grid.

O mintmark tilted - yes!
O mint mark is not tilted. The picture is.

To find the right VAM, start with the mint mark and the date. Any other questions about things you see should come after doing that.

Re: A link or brief explanation please

VAM 1AA3 has not been eliminated, although it is a candidate to be. There is likely no difference between VAM 1AA2 and 1AA3.

Re: OT - Feed Finger Gouges Or ?

ANACS grade/attribution posted. 1940 50c ANACS # 5420329 VF 25 Struck from Eroded Dies Comment - Most probably Die Erosion. Still uncertain about what may have caused this. It might be worthwhile to have this examined by Mike Diamond or Jon Sullivan. I would disagree with "Struck from Eroded Dies"....

Cool classic coin, and sometimes you just have to pull the trigger for that reason alone.

Re: 1878 VAMs 100 and 101

This still needs to be taken care of in the registry. @fogie or @alefzero will take care of this. I believe that once they do this, your coins will automatically be changed to the new VAM numbers.

Re: 1884-S with poor detail - Engraver's explaination

Almost too small to read, but I think the Chaz B's explanation is that "the die had been ground too low at the mint in San Francisco." That being the case, I'm surprised the 82-O/S VAM 3, which has an easily notice overpolished jaw and neck on Liberty and circulated, hadn't been flagged. I'm not awa...

What I notice right away is the haloing around the stars and other devices. The luster is uneven, which is probably why they called it cleaned.
First thing I spotted, too. 98-O usually has very attractive, frosty luster.

If that was a find from days of yore, you've also don't extremely well with the way 1921 Peace dollars have shot up in value. They're down a little from last year's highs, but still way up from 5 years ago.

For some reason, I think I've seen that before. Maybe it was this coin. Looks damaged, but would entertain the possibility that it's not if multiple specimens could be produced.

Re: So much clashing!

Yes, it has a clashed 't', probably an 'n' (can't see one in the pictures), but it is not VAM 24A, which has different clashing from yours at the back of the hair. Look through the other clashed dies and you should find the correct one.
