Re: Mark Kimpton Collection at Stack's/Bowers
Hope you had a wonderful dinner with your wife. Had my eyes on the 01-O 25A as it was a pretty piece. Had my eyes on quite a few and was a bit surprised many didn't go higher. These might not be the most valuable of coins in some ways, but these are immensely valuable in others! Happily ended up sna...

1886-O VAM-19A... for starters...
Knew there was at least ONE more - different rotation, different offset but wonderful example.
Now... any others?

Any otherTY clashes besides 87-O VAM-30A
Pulling together a talk I'm giving to the Nottingham Numismatic Society on Monday night and going to show my lovely example (not bad at NGC's AU55 mark), but don't want to misspeak. So can anyone correct my ignorance: Are there any other TY chashes like the 87-O VAM-30A? I thought there was but for ...

My unprofessional vote: High (for sure if not very high if that variant exists) and normal (no tilt)

Re: 1879O Morgan help
Again, great pictures showing a lot of action on the coin. I'm not seeing the classical hub doubling seen on 30-36 and 39, so those can be ruled out but I'm definitely not the expert. I still love the gouge at the beak - it looks familiar to another coin I've seen (and likely described somewhere on ...

Re: 1879O Morgan help
For the hub doubling, be sure to look closely at UNITED as these are the key letters - can't miss them when they're there.

Re: 1879O Morgan help
Wicked cool polish lines in many places. Nice gouge at the beak, too. Looks like a tilted left MM? Or regular slightly shifted left? Can you see any hub doubling (see http://www.vamworld.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=7017&p=58254#p58254 for a bit of my own questioning on this lovely date and mint)? ...

1891-O V1Ax - a lit'l guidance?
Still insanely jealous of messydesk 's 1A2 pick up in such a high condition ( http://www.vamworld.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=6899 if any of you missed that great post). Sorry I can't get a better picture of a recent purchase but I wanted to ask if you think this a 1A2 or a 1A3? Happy either way b...

Re: I don't usually talk smack...
Ah, my friend morganman ... if you have a few spares I'd be willing to be a recipient... I do love the hunt yet I do love feeling the coin as I enjoy looking at it in 3-dimensions. Kinda like how I like my wife - she takes a pretty picture but there ain't nothing like holiding her. (Of course, I don...

I don't usually talk smack...
... so I won't, but I will vent a bit because I so had my sights on the 78-S VAM-50 on GC last night only to be out bid by someone also beliving this to be that coin. C'mon peeps. If this was you, please gloat about your purchase... Sure there are others in AU58 holders... as well as higher grades, ...

Re: 1896-P VAM-5A obverse scratches?
Whatever was happening in Philly was being echoed in the Big Easy. I've only begun scratching the surface of P (including a VAM-4, VAM-19 and VAM-20) and O flavors (the western ones being mostly out of my price range), but have already picked up these two beauties: 96-O v9 and v19 fun.jpg So many mo...

Copying the link to the original post to save server space: 1900-P near 2x date C3 rev - not seeing it described http://www.vamworld.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=7080 As John writes, The date is punched into the die separately from the hubbing until 1909. Seeing similar doubling on both the date an...

Re: 1896-P VAM-5A obverse scratches?
Embarassingly I do now see a clear mention of "Some heavy die polishing lines in Phrygian cap top" on the VAM-5A page. Oy. I'd not abuse anyone's graces any more but I'd recommend adding this coin to the 2023 top 12 coins to find list... Hardly any registered in SSDC but a wonderfully complex variet...

Re: 1900-P near 2x date C3 rev - not seeing it described
Brilliant and makes sense. VAM-5 most likely then? Don't believe it to be a VAM-6 based on descriptions.
Thanks again, John!

Re: 1900-P near 2x date C3 rev - not seeing it described
First right star appears completely normal as do the other stars: First two on the right: WIN_20221201_16_48_59_Pro.jpg First right star top (where I'd think the machine doubling would be): WIN_20221201_16_49_58_Pro.jpg And the bottom (that might indicate a VAM-23) - apparently clean: WIN_20221201_1...
