Re: For Newbies: Beware of coins graded in Various slabs with irreputable names

Whatever happened to "buy the coin, not the holder"? If you trust a holder, from any slabbing service, you can be disappointed. Conversely, great coins can hide in holders also. While this type of post can be helpful to some, you need to know the coins. Totally agree, only gamble what you are willi...

Re: I'm just a Fogie wanna-be with DCs

Were any of these the result of the JOH-22 question on earlier string?

Re: What's the difference between 1878 8tf V22B & C?

Thank's Mark. It is obvious that I may need to slow down and read the descriptions better. Re-reading it, I am good with the LDS Vam 22-A, I got hung up on thinking the clash began as a B but obviously, it did not. As far as the smooth wing, the reverse is DMPL if that helps, or close to it! Thanks ...

Re: What's the difference between 1878 8tf V22B & C?

Mark- What I was trying to convey is that the written description of both the 22 B&C have a die "chip" on the second star. The coin I have does not have the chip, but has the crack forming. It does have radial cracks on both front and back. Attached are the photos. I am only looking for clarificatio...

Re: What's the difference between 1878 8tf V22B & C?

Since the descriptions seem to hinge on the die chips and breaks, what would an 8TF 22_ be considered if the chip on Star 2 has not formed but has the (2) cracks that caused the chip and has crack stages of the rest of the stars/wing tips?

Re: Help on 1882-P Metal in 2

Thank you for the interest. This is exactly how the forum should work! "just a filled 2" leads to which one, not just to disregard it. There appears to be (11) metal in 2's, and this coin isn't puzzleing in. I also appreciate the 'tweener" comment, it is perfectly descriptive. Mysteries are what VAM...

Help on 1882-P Metal in 2

Asking for vam assistance on this coin. PUP don't align to the visuals posted for metal in 6. Fields in 8's are clear, polish lines don't match, it is a normal date position. Does have the little bump in the 2....

Thank you for any help in advance

Re: does 21-D JOH-22 have a VAM #?

Curious how this would be handled.... Jack Lee Discovered the JOH-22, however as it may seem, this coin may not have been submitted to LVA or nor JR-JB for a VAM number. Could Dennis share the credit of Discovery?

He is just following the new DC guideline of posting it here for more eyes to evaluate first, as opposed to simply sending it to @vampicker or @messydesk where it might slow things down in their lives. I say bravo for following directions.

Grade vs Desirability

Scenario- You are at a coin show/ swap meet and have no access to an atm or credit card. There is $130. USD in your pocket. You find a raw 1891-P 2A LDS Mustache for $50, Probably a EF-40-45. You also find a raw 1891-P 2A Mustache EDS for $130, Probably an AU-50. You only have enough to buy one... W...

Re: 10 biggest VAM sales in 2022

Of course I was quoting "P"CGS sarcastically! Dennis goes way above and beyond with real information. Our coins have a perceived value, until they are sold. Our one friend produces more real data than how many PCGS employees? If anyone will be lucky enough to discover a 23A and send it into PCGS, th...
