Re: 2021 Morgans and Peace New Dates Announced

U.S Mint Announcement - Hope the info helps - During the initial pre-order window for the Morgan & Peace Dollars, the Mint experienced an extraordinarily high volume of BOT traffic. These BOTs were programmed to conduct technology-driven transactions which caused significant interference with many t...

Re: OT 1914 PCGSPR67 BUFFALO NICKEL

Nothing like a target toned Buffalo. Always loved the delicate undulation in the fields of early specimens. Just think another ton of pressure on that squeeze and you would have a PF68+ split tail reverse. Beautiful score & thanks for sharing!

Re: PCGSPR65 CAM MORGAN

At 77 now and lucky to be in very good health (knock on wood) and Soc Sec being my only income, I love all kinds of beans, mixed in with some pieces of white meat chicken and corn bread. They’re full of nutrients, including copper, folate, iron, magnesium, potassium, and zinc, as well as protein an...

Re: 2021 Morgans Postponed

From my understanding, by law, the U.S Mint procures it's Silver, Gold, Platinum & Palladium for the next fiscal year by contract on Oct. 1st then takes delivery the last week in November. Any idea if my memory was right and they must use US sources? Also, I think the industrial uses of silver have...

Re: 2021 Morgans Postponed

Just got a notice from the Mint that the rest of the Morgans are postponed due to the silver shortage How can there be a silver shortage when the market price never moves up more than a few dollars? Go figure! From my understanding, by law, the U.S Mint procures it's Silver, Gold, Platinum & Pallad...

Re: "2021" Morgan and Peace dollar imitations from Mint

My interest is fading. I did want to place an order a few months ago, now not so much. To me these coins have no character, kind of sterile copies of the real coins. I have to agree but considering all issues will be U.S Mint genuine 100th memorial anniversary specimens with additional Mint Marks t...

Re: Guess the grade

Here is an early post I put on the eBay boards last year when it came out. Check this out & Guess the Grade... Just saw this on NGC's website : https://www.ngccoin.com/news/article/7696/seated-half-dollar-struck-on-quarter-planchet - If you can go here, check the enlarged images and please tell me h...

Re: Guess the grade

I always say with TPG's, it depends on the day of the week & how good the graders coffee was that morning. I would have put this Morgan at MS63/64 at best, way too baggy. I just saw a 1982P JFK Half w/ No "FG" Reverse, was graded as a MS64, it literally looked like XF Details, it was badly scratched...

Re: New Member with a Possible New VAM - 1922-P Peace Dollar - Extra Olive Branch?

Thanks everyone, been collecting 40 years myself. I have never seen a die clash overrun <over> one ray detail and then subduct <under> the next ray a few millimeters apart as these do. Any ideas how this specifically happens if truly a clash? Most every Peace DCR's I have seen has been the "Shoulde...

If the letters are on top of the mark, then you would be looking at a planchet flaw.
Have to agree...looks like a stain possibly on the planchet pre-strike, the lettering under striking pressure likely diffused the stain where struck and remained intact in the field..Nice Coin

this is a very common occurence on 1922-1924. this is actually the sunken area outlining the cap. you will find loads of them with little looking. when the dies clash without a planchet/blank in the chamber, this is the result. welcome to the madness.
Thank You for your input!

Interesting. Could both coins be shown with identical lighting and orientation? Thank you, I will try to shoot both together. Also want to see if I can capture a oblique shot under my microscope. Re: New Member with a Possible New VAM - 1922-P Peace Dollar - Extra Olive Branch?

Check the listing of the collar clash 1922-P Collar clashes occur when hammer die is vertically misaligned (tilted) and contacts the top edge of the collar die. The collar die is notched at regular intervals in order to form reeded edge. A collar clash transfers the notched edge impression onto the...

Re: New Member with a Possible New VAM - 1922-P Peace Dollar - Extra Olive Branch?

A clash would be as a 'negative' of the die. The dies clash and transfer image to the opposite die. Have you examined the PEACE dollar over lay for what that may be? http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com/wiki/Overlay Trust me, I wouldn't steer you wrong... Kenny - Yes I did ...

Re: New Member with a Possible New VAM - 1922-P Peace Dollar - Extra Olive Branch?

Hi! and Welcome. Your 'branch' is a clash result from obverse die I believe...kenny I'm not strong on the 'Darkside" of VAMs, but I like that Miss Liberty's hair looks broken...kenny Thanks Kenny - I too thought of Clashing on 1st look. Both specimens have raised metal instead of incuse as a clash ...
