Re: 1924 neck clash?

I cannot see a deep impression on the reverse between the top two rays from eagle's wing. However, I measured 9 mm +/- from the top of the E on the obverse to the rim, and I then measured 9 mm from rim on reverse to a point where an E should be. At that point, I can see (at a certain angle and refle...

Re: 1924 neck clash?

I don’t think so, but I will look again in the morning and have a fresh look.

1924 neck clash?

Photos show what appear to be double clash lines from neck-jaw junction to top of E in WE. Can someone tell me what I am seeing here?

FYI to all: I asked Messydesk to change my username as I had been using my email address. New username is on this post.

Re: 1883-cc Clashed Die Break Cap?

I think it’s nicer than 61. It’s one of those TPG disappointments I mentioned in another thread on this forum. Thanks to all for the help on this. I was experiencing a high degree of brain fog last night mixing up VAM pages.

Of course it does. Not sure why I typed 8A. I need to shut it down earlier at night.

1883-cc Clashed Die Break Cap?

Everything seems to be here for a VAM-8A, most especially the die break at the cap; however, the date and mintmark on my coin do not appear to match those on the VW 8A photos. For example, in the VW description, it says, "Large V CC set to right with metal within left C and short arc of metal at top...

Re: Crackin’ Slabs & Resubmitting Stories

Been submitting and being disappointed in poor grades and “details” for three decades. Once submitted a beautifully toned PL Morgan to a TPG that sent it back “artificially frosted”. Sat on it a long time tempted to sell it as labeled for next to nothing. Finally, I broke it out and sent it to anoth...

1890-P More Die Wear Lines?

Here are photos of what appear to be die wear lines on an 1890-P. On this coin, there are many more raised lines than on the 1921 VAMs with such lines and not just between denticles. On this 1890, lines even appear to be "climbing" the slopes of denticles. Some lines traverse the width of the field ...

Re: 1921 Necklace (3) Die Wear Lines Obverse Denticles

Found this on the Internet. Not sure it is the explanation for the die wear lines I’m seeing in The photos. BTW, 1921 VAM 79 full photo of obverse has die wear lines I can see even with my poor eyesight: “A planchet has to be slightly smaller than the collar it is struck in so that it can be fed in ...

Re: 1921 Infrequent reeding VAM 25a

FUN Show was last week so some posts went unanswered probably because VAMWORLD folks were preoccupied with that major event and the travel to and from. A 1921 with trailing die wear lines, I believe, can only be a 19A, 88A or IM, according to replies to my post last night on the same subject. The 19...

Re: 1921 Necklace (3) Die Wear Lines Obverse Denticles

Yes, those are die wear lines. They look like fangs or spikes sticking out between the denticles.

Thanks. Yes, a 19A would be inescapable to notice; I had ruled out 19A but forgot to mention it. I will look at 79.

1921 Necklace (3) Die Wear Lines Obverse Denticles

What varieties other than 88A have die wear lines in the obverse denticles? The die wear lines run the entire perimeter of this coin. The 88A has a horizontal polishing line next to eagle's left leg feathers, but this coin does not have the polishing line.

Re: Proposed New VAM Page Listing Format. Vote in the poll below.

I like the key VAMs box. I would see value also in a quick reference box with the R-6, R-7 VAMs. I agree with a previous comment about avoiding abbreviations wherever possible. Thanks.

What does this mean on the 6B web page: "Under Review Duplicate Listing of already Plated Impressions"?
