Re: New 80-P Checkmark Variety

I just checked some pictures I have for VAM 41 that I took a long time ago for someone who was studying the date. The coin was circulated and most things to look at were on the obverse. It's pretty safe to say that there are multiple die pairs out there currently attributed as VAM 41. Looking forwar...

Re: New 1900 O VAM 72 Dentical Impressions?

@messydesk Is there a misprint on the official listing? The listing says Far Date, but the photo says near date. Congratulations on the DC. Cut and paste error on the discovery letter. The text on VAMWorld is correct. Wow, JB is human. Who knew. But really, thanks for all you do. You’re awesome JB!...

Re: On a 1921-S question, prooflikes

21-S is the Morgan dollar most seldomly found in PL, relative to its MS population. I think 1901 beats it in terms of absolute rarity, but there are 7 1921-S in PL, 0, count 'em, 0 in DMPL in the PCGS pops. Of the three pictured on CoinFacts, none are attractive. Two (from the same die pair) have lo...

Re: 2023 VSS/PCGS Bulk Submission #1

Bulk turnaround is really unpredictable. I have had orders take 3-4 months and I've actually had them back within 2 weeks. If I have your coins for a couple months before I get the full 100 I need to submit, you could get unlucky and need to wait 6 months from the time you send them to me. If yours ...

This submission is at PCGS now. Anything I receive will go into submission #2.
May I ask what is the turn around time estimate for doing it like this ????
It's usually between 2 weeks and 6 months.

so how does this all relate to values?- Is 23A still the money coin ?
Yes. The 23A with naked-eye, across-the-room clash is the money coin. Others are the "bridesmaids," as it were.

Re: O/T Pushing a cell phone camera to its limits/1881-CC

Maybe 4 to 5 inches that was the only way to get the high res to focus . Had to use the timer . But i am thinking something that reflects the lighting would be better. I had no idea I was gonna struggle with coin photos like I have . Glare is not your friend. Lol Short answer is that you're too clo...

How far are you from the coin when you take the picture? That will determine what you can do with the lighting.

Re: DO THESE PICTURES OF MY 1878 OF THE COTTON BOLLS AND LEAVES LOOK DOUBLED?

I do see doubling on the bolls and leaves, as well as the fold of the cap, I think. The problem is that a lot of 78s have minor doubling all over the place. Look around the rest of the coin for other matches. Peripheral lettering on the obverse is quite useful.

Ok. Thank you very much. Do the polishing lines indicate anything? They are under the cap, between the eagle wing gap, and between the leg and tail feather.
Die polishing lines are useful as markers to confirm a match to a known die, but that's it.

I misspoke. They're either RPMs or doubled dies. 09-S/S, 11-D/D, 22 DDR, 25 DDR, 26 TDO.

Re: OT; Duckor/Akers Saint Gaudens

@messydesk ; JB, thanks for starting it off. Good luck Luck won't have much to do with it for me. I'll get stomped long before the hammer falls on that one. Funny thing is a couple weeks ago I was looking at the CPG. There are 6 Saints listed, and all but one (1909/8) are RPMs that are probably eas...

Re: 1889 Wrong attribution?

From what I can see, there's no clash that would warrant being listed as anything. The date is on the left side of the normal lateral position, but still normal. Any slant in the date is too slight to have been listed. The date also shows no signs of repunching. So far, this is VAM 1. If possible, p...

Re: 1878p Vam 31, 110 and 40 obverses

@vampicker, you rock and I'm so glad you're adding/correcting my input! I had no idea there were 3 different dies for the 200 listing - now I'll need to start a look out for the other two to complete my set. #mywifeisn'tgoingtobehappywithyou Not 3 dies for VAM 200, 3 dies with similar breaks. Sorry, yes, you did respond to that. I messaged you again and offered to let you look at the coin. I did not get a response to that. I could have messed up with sending that message.
I never received a second message.
