Re: 1901 O VAM 65 "2 for 1" dubious listing

It was moved because it hadn't been observed. It doesn't mean it doesn't exist. That said, the die polishing lines on your coin need to match those shown on the 65A page (and those on a 65A coin that aren't shown) exactly for it to be considered to be VAM 65. I can't tell from here if they do.

Re: 1885 O VAM 25A would this be a LDS

Unlikely I'd list that as anything other than VAM 25A. It may or may not be a later die stage than the 25A discovery coin. There are so many cracks on the obverse that it'll take a lot of coins to know how and in what order they all developed. Only after this happens will I consider adding detail to...

Re: 79-S B2a Study

Missing from the progression for that reverse were the two that came earlier, but as they're dated 1878, it's pretty obvious where they go. Any time you get one die used in 8 different die marriage, that's a cool thing. When it spans 2 years, even more cool.

Re: 79-S B2a Study

This novice could digest that a little easier if it wasn't in a right to left format. Is that a numismatist thing? I did like seeing that census for this date in the attribution guides. Kudo's to someone. Just happened to be how we laid them out on the table. We decided we needed to document it, so...

Re: 79-S B2a Study

C'mon you just need multiple examples of each to place side by side and stare at them for hours, passing them back and forth after dinner. It helps if you have at least a couple of people that have no deep interest in varieties that agree to dinner, with no idea a lengthy research session is on the...

79-S B2a Study

Saturday at a big show when the dealer is gone but the plastic tablecloth is still there, you have a blank canvas upon which to study the progression of the 1879-S B2a reverse. IMG_0454.jpg 56, 149, and 66 may not be in exactly the right order, and it may never be possible to determine the right ord...

I picked this poor looking coin because it has a far date (and the price was right)...
Unless it was free, the price was not right. If eBay, file a SNAD as a counterfeit coin.

Re: OT - Amazon AWS Layoffs

AWS is still Amazon's most profitable business unit. The old VW disappeared because it was on someone else's wiki platform and that company disappeared. It sounds like Amazon is just undoing a big hiring spree related to AWS.

Re: VAM nicknames

Nicknames for coins are like any other nicknames. They have to get started somehow, but then have to be organically accepted. There's a Seinfeld episode about George trying to force a nickname onto himself. It doesn't turn out well.

Crazy that it made an 'uncirculated' holder rather than the 'silver dollar' version. Guess they invented not turning coins over to grade them
It may have been on the day that they only had to be untoned.

My Judd book doesn't go past 1916, but if you're referring to J-2015, according to uspatterns.com, that has been discredited as being mutilated regular issues

Re: This may have been asked. Noob here.

I did a search already and couldn't find anything. My question is, what happened to the Rarity rating on all of the Morgan VAM's? Every VAM used to have a rarity rating associated with each one, but I don't see it anymore. What happened? TIA. A valid question. The rarity rating is being phased out ...

Re: 23-P with a squiggle

The squiggle is a clash from the top outline of Liberty's head. Rather common clash, since the feature is lower on the coin (higher on the die) than the nearby field.

Re: 1883-S VAM-17

Many 83-S and 84-S have engraved leaves that weren't previously noted. These dates have been particularly nasty to attribute because of consistent date positions (most 84-S are far, 83-S doesn't move) and coins being circulated.

I will be at table 805 from Thursday through Saturday. PCGS will have onsite grading, but not variety attribution. As for extra money for special labels, more power to them. To me, they are meaningless, but they are an additional stream of money that keeps them from raising the basic grading fees fa...

You have either VAM 4B or VAM 13. Look at the denticles below the 18 in the date for VAM 8. If you have a match, it's VAM 13, otherwise VAM 4B.

Re: Is there a clashed 1891 CC VAM 3 or VAM 7 spitting eagle?

VAM 3 is available clashed and unclashed. The clash is quite light and there's nothing listable about it. If there is an additional, heavier clash, I am unaware of it. VAM 7 has the reverse clash polished away, as well as some of the eagle spit.
