1898-S V4 vs V17/17A

Has anyone noticed that the obverse die of the VAM-4 and VAM-17A is the same? The LFCPs on this site for both VAMs show the same die chip in Liberty's Cap below the top cap fold that is listed for the VAM-4. Based on my die study of this date, they do share the same obverse die. The reverse dies are...

Re: VAM Thing FUN 2019

Won't make it this year. While I will be in Orlando over the Holidays visiting the man-children, daughters-in-law, and grandkids, I can't extend my vacation to include the FUN Show. Bummer, since it is actually in Orlando this year.

Re: 1901-S Possible Die Break

Having done a die study on the 1901-S series, I did not find a reverse die with a crack pattern that would support the crack eventually developing into a break/cud in the location and pattern as shown on this coin. That being said, I did not find a die pair that would fit into VAM-11 either. Looks l...

Doesn't look natural to me. I am in the camp of some sort of PMD. Things just don't look right to me.

Re: Back from LVA

I would ask the following question. Does your 1900-S "VAM-13" coin have a m/m that could be described as "high"?

If so, why wouldn't it be a VAM-14 since the descriptions are so similar?

Re: 3 discoveries, 4 revisions, 1 kill

Leroy made the right call with the 1892-S VAM-1A listing, rather than going with a new VAM-14 IMHO. Nice listing. By the way, the reverse die was used in EDS in the VAM-12 and VAM-13 die pairs. I could not find an example of either of those die pairs that showed even a hint of a die chip at the righ...

Re: 1887-P VAM13(A?) (Chipped 8's, Denticle Impressions, Beards, Antlers, Over-date, and E's...)

For those that might be interested, there is an article on the 1887-P VAM-13 die progression on the SSDC Registry site. It is in the VAMview dated September 2008. This article was written before the VAM-13A die stage was listed. But it might prove an interesting read. By the way, the clashed letter ...

Re: Edge of an E?

I think Ray be onto something. The marker he shows is too high off of eagle's wing to be the neck clash. It is also incuse to the coin which a clashed E would be. While I am not convinced, and am not convinced LVA would list it as a clashed E, I think it should be seen in hand by others before any a...

Re: Back from LVA yesterday.

I don't want this opportunity to pass without reminding folks about some general protocol that should be followed. If someone thinks they have a new listing, or can't ID the coin they have, they should vet the coin on this site. If that doesn't work, then you should contact whoever has done a date &...

Re: 78P ECM - Needs confirmation !

I am going to repeat this story,as it seems to be applicable here. However, some will likely think I am an idiot, or may not relate the story to this thread. Regardless, here goes. Early in my VAM hobby, I was putting together a Clashed E collection. At the time, there was only the listing for the 1...

Okay, I will punt first. Here is the official listing of the 1902-O VAM-45 Die Pair #1 from October, 2009. In order, my photo of the mint mark, the VAM Plate that matches your coin at the cap fold junction, the die scratch below eagle's talon, and the listing from Leroy. Let me know if you have any ...

Re: Back from LVA yesterday.

I guess there is no interest in resolving the VAM-45 Die Pair #1 and Die Pair #14 listings? The VAM-45 Die Pair #8 was also listed by Leroy, but was shown to be a duplicate of Die Pair #1 and hence delisted. Looks to me like the Die Pair #14 is the same thing, a duplicate. If there is interest, PM me.

Keep in mind that the clashed E on Morgan dollars is raised on the field of the coin. On Peace dollars, it will be incuse (below) to the field.
