Oops, meant to say "die states" and not "die stages", I wanted to know what people know about the different die states of the 1878s VAM-109, as the eye spikes radically differ. I shouldn't have asked. I'm sorry.

I apologize for asking if anybody could clue me in to the different die stages of the 1878s VAM-109. I sure wouldn't be doing that again.

Again, my concern is solely with the variety of eye spikes within VAM-109, wanting to know the order of production within the confines of VAM-109. There are different die states within VAM-109.

I am not concerns about the order of production of those other VAMS, am concerned about the variation of the eye spikes in VAM-109, and their order of production.

I guess the early die state of the VAM-109 has the massive and thick eye spike.

What was the order of production?

I've a few of these VAM-109's, I see that the eye spike varies greatly, some have a very heavy and easily noticeable spike, others have the spike greatly subdued. Any input in the matter would be appreciated.

You guys are quibbling about trivial matters, about mint condition coins that are graded MS62 instead of MS63, whereas I am stuck with a scratched VF20 that should have received a details grade.

Just received a PCGS 1878s VF20 in the mail, I saw damage on the coin in the seller's photos but bid on it and bought it anyway. Now I see that the scratches are significant, neither ANACS nor NGC would never have provided this coin with a clear grade. Not sure why people are so hung up on obtaining...

I guess there are close to thirty of these coins rolling around in graded cases, they are not super rare. I have two with clear grades and now this third example with problems.

1878-S 77 8 NGC MAY-17 H $49

Heritage Auctions sells a details graded Vam 77 about once every 4 years, have to be patient. They sell cheap.

Oops, meant to say in XF40, I know they are out there.

Looking for a raw 1878-S Vam 62 in XF40.

Exceedingly hard to find coin, thought somebody would congratulate me over this. I also managed to obtain an extremely worn, and badly scratched details grade 1878-S VAM 106 this year, shares the same reverse, also difficult to obtain in any condition.

The break is massive, the lighting not so good.
