Re: Photo Poop Alert

It used to be just strategically placed bag marks looked like doubling, but now you have to consider slab scratches, too.

I'm not able to access the link...
I ran into this earlier today in the Chrome browser on my PC, but it works on the Chrome browser on my phone. I have a note to myself to find out why. Try right-clicking or ctrl-click and opening in a new tab.

Re: A pair of Scarface 88-O from last night

I seem to recall a story about these Scarface pieces with the circle of toning on the reverse. Something like these were mounted on wood as part of a clock. The maker just happened to pick a couple of rolls of these for his work. Does this ring a bell with anyone else? It sounds familiar, but I mig...

Nice results, indeed, and not even the latest die stage.

Re: Morgan dollar pattern and privately made

If the 1884 J-1731 was simply part of a one-off "die trial in copper" set made for A. H. Smith, as is mentioned on uspatterns.com, then it has nothing to do with the 1885 J-1747-50, which was clearly a test of a technology. I don't know which die pair was used for the 1885 patterns, but it should be...

Old Wiki Page Editing Cutoff

As part of the migration of the wiki (everything on VAMworld but the messages), I will announce a last chance to edit pages here. This will probably be early August, but a specific date will be announced at least 1 week ahead of time. After the cutoff date, I will set the wiki to read-only and take ...

I have a small bottle of VAM hair oil. Jeff Oxman had a small case of these and was giving them away at a show several years ago.

Re: Wiki Teaser

Thanks John. Will you let us know when it is ok to upload photo's? I'll let people know when I open it up. I have it locked down right now so that only I can make edits. Meanwhile, there is a MediaWiki Sandbox that is open for the world to edit. If you want to try editing a page, play with this one...

Re: Wiki Teaser

Don't upload anything yet. I will probably test out my import scripts tonight to see if I'll be able to import all the current pages. This will probably include purging all pages from the wiki at least once until I'm satisfied that I can import the whole thing including images.

First things first. I need to actually get the wiki up and running beyond the default "congratulations, you installed and did initial configuration on your wiki" page.

Re: coin collecting app

My experience is similar to HawkeEye's. I've installed and quickly uninstalled many trial versions of stuff, wrote my own software, and wrote some software with Access. Now I mostly use PCGS's "My Inventory," which is part of their registry. It accepts any coin, raw or graded.

Re: !878-P Broken M & N

They aren't necessarily the same dies. The broken M & N is a result of the hub breaking (like the broken 'r' on trust or the 4th left star point). We can probably assume that the VAM 200 die was not made first, since it was paired with a Rev. of 79, but there's not even a guarantee of that. It might...

So frustrating trying to sort out my Avatar. I did it straight away on the old site. Resize, by how much? the size of a DOT. Tried resizing, can't do. Gee, frustrating.
E-mail me your avatar and I'll see if I can set it as an administrator.

Re: O/T... Who Knew About this?!

Can't imagine a bag of 81-S would be greater than the sum of its parts from a VAM standpoint. But a 78-S or 89 Philly bag might be a different story. High grades and killer toners are the draw as several have noted. The days of trading in bags was something I missed, and the few remaining are solid...
