1921-P help needed
Another D2 reverse. I've been through the crack and scribbles guides multiple times. There were 2-3 scribbles that made me open the attribution pages and look, but with no match. So I took photos of cracks and left wing scribbles and other possible PUPs in the hope that more eyes out there could hel...

Re: 1887-P VAM-3A.... With Eye Scratch?...
Keep in mind the enormous implications of what "every time the bag is moved" means. First, a canvas bag of 1000 Morgans weighs about 62 pounds. When they were handled, it was not done gently. They were dragged, thrown and dropped. And imagine the process of moving inventory to a Federal Reserve stor...

That's it Lee! Thanks so much.
No wonder I didn't find it... that crack from ust to AM isn't in the master crack guide (where it belongs!)

Contact Todd who was recommended in the other thread. He is the only one I have ever known to have C.C. canvas bags.

scribbles help needed
This 1921-P D1 reverse has be me stumped, and both the scribbles and crack guides have me frustrated at how limited they are. I really feel like I've seen both the 2 horizontal lines in the left scribbles area, and the crack from trust to AM before. Can anyone help? ust-AM crack.jpg scribbles 1.jpg ...

Re: Grade Opinions
Wow. This is tough, because I don't care for the color and the patchy obverse toning.
My call is 63PL.

Would someone please add this to both the attribution page and the Scribbles Guide?

The "hat" on the S in PLURIBUS on this 1921-P is kind of fun – but what is it?

Mega-congrats to both parties!
This is only the 4th example I am aware of trading hands since 2004, all of them between private parties and all of them AU58s.

Re: 1921-P... Scribbled Scratches and Broken "2" in Date...?
OK, that explains it.
I have 5 VAM 3DAs and none of them have the gouge. So you may have a new addition to the 3DA sequence.

Re: 1921-P... Scribbled Scratches and Broken "2" in Date...?
My bad... I thought you were talking about the crack.
I see what looks like a gouge through the E in one photo, but it doesn't look too convincing in the other photo, so I can't really offer much of an opinion.

What you're seeing through TES on the reverse is a die crack, which are profoundly common (and sometimes more extensive than makes any sense) on 1921-Ps.
There are D1 and D2 crack guides elsewhere on this site that many of us use to make VAM attributions, rather than using scribbles.

Re: 1921-P... Scribbled Scratches and Broken "2" in Date...?
First of all, you see which reverse type you have (D1 or D2). Your coin is a D2, which about 80% of 1921-Ps are. Then you see if it has scribbles (your last photo), which your coin has a TON of, and which makes things very easy. Then you go to the 1921-P D2 Reverse Scribbles page and a start scrolli...

That's it! Thanks!
But I can't believe it isn't in the die crack guide. And the scribbles guide obviously needs this updated LDS photo.

There are also a few very old cracks on the coin:
There are a couple of strong gouges in the lower part of the Y in Liberty's headband, and a lot of polishing lines between the cotton bolls:

1921-P help needed
This is a D1 reverse. There are no scribbles, but there is a heavy horizontal gouge at the bottom of the right opening, and a long, snake-shaped gouge on the eagle's abdomen: raw1921 scribbles.jpg By far the most distinction feature on the coin (if this isn't a new discovery I can't believe it doesn...
