Re: Trading

In the buy, sell, trade section one must set a price. Could we not also allow trading to occur where people offer a single graded Morgan (or Peace dollar) in trade for the one graded coin being offered? The rules state that all offers to sell must include a price. If you simply want to trade, it wi...

Re: New purchase Morgan medal

George Morgan did a lot of nice medal work until he got to the Philadelphia Mint. Then things gradually went downhill. His assay commission medals are quite nice, as are the presidential portrait medals he did. I imagine he was also under pressure to adopt the Art Nouveau style which perhaps wasn't...

Re: 6 rolls of Spitting Eagles!

VAM 3 isn't really sold for the VAM, rather for it being a 91-CC. The market should be able to absorb 120 uncirculated 91-CCs without batting an eye.

Re: 1882 O/S EDS Early Die Series

Congrats on the finds. I wished I knew more about them but they seem to defy my logic - how an O/S can become more pronounced as it progresses from EDS to LDS seems backwards to me. Thus, I think I'm misunderstanding the whole thing. Would love if someone would write up a detailed die study about t...

What are the facts? Multiple posts and articles are inconsistent. Who brokered the deal? What's the date/mint/denomination breakdown? When was this discovered? Most cornfields are not plowed anymore.
Brokered by Jeff Garrett, being sold through govmint.com (*cringe*). Here's another article.

Re: 1st strike question

I noticed today that the subscription for the reverse proof 2 coin 2023 Morgan and Peace set has begun for anyone that may be interested from the US Mint . Leroy's first reaction to seeing one of the new Morgans in hand: "Yech." Second reaction: "I don't think George would be happy with this."

Re: 1900 O VAM?

The mint mark isn't ruled to the left, the photo is. I see near date, high O upright, counter-clash, C3 reverse. Start with that.

I just added Leroy's VAM 46 pictures to the page. Hopefully that doesn't open a different can of worms.

Machine doubling, which doesn't have anything to do with die rotation.

Re: 1921-D VAM-1DL1 or 1DL2?

Yours looks like VAM 1DL1. The only photo that counts is Leroy's. The additional photo might actually have that chip, but it is lit such that it's hidden.

Re: 1921-S Morgan Vam-1S, Another Reverse?

That might be the best course of action. I hesitate to catalog a new die marriage without conclusive evidence that it's warranted, but I can at least document what is being observed.

Nice! I don't know that I'd separate circs from uncirculated non PL coins for statistical purposes. Showing the median and highest grade will give a better feeling of what's out there.

Actually, we already have a complete date census on the Registry, at the bottom of the census page. Just need to add a little bit to the output and then maybe also include those non-VAM series.
Cool! High, low, and median grade would lend a lot of insight into relative availability.

Re: OT: A long journey ends.

Congrats! When I first saw your set, I thought the same about the coins. Big ol' coin with a big ol' sword on it with the inscription indicating that it was to be used for the king or, if he deserved it, against him, with the finger clarifying that it referred to the sword. Cool! I went as far as to...
