A new look at ‘21-D JOH-3

39640388 LFCP obv small.jpg 39640388 LFCP rev small.jpg It was 21 years ago that Rob Joyce discovered a crazy variety that is jammed with features, which he listed as JOH-3 in his 2003 book, " Fun With 1921". Nice 'pick! :D
And bravo for bidding cautiously because of the TPG's reputation.
Let us know how it grades out.

Re: 1921 D Question

Jason: As you probably noticed, the number of coins represented in the 1921-D die crack and scribbles attribution guides is well below the number of currently known different VAMs for that date. I recently photographed scribbles on Fogie's entire 1921-D set (56.7% complete), and Wayne is currently a...

anyone recognize this 21-P?

The scribbles on this coin are driving me nuts, and the 4 photos here all show meaningful features that emerged with just small adjustments of the light source. Argh!! Hopefully someone will recognize this and I won't have to send it to J.B./J.R. for possible DC evaluation. crop scribbles 1.jpg crop...

Re: Over priced 1889-P MS 63 VAM-63

I gave up trying to make sense of eBay sales prices more than a year ago. I see there were multiple bidders who were seriously interested in that coin.

OT: fake ASE $1 from eBay

Saw this today at a garage sale. Old military vet said it was fake (it's magnetic as hell); I was shocked to learn the fakers are making proofs – and that are so nice looking. The wife of a friend of his had bought several of them on eBay for $35 each. We talked about him joining the local coin club...

Re: Eliminated VAM's

This is a topic that deserves attention, especially with 1921-Ps where the number of VAMs is SO big and duplicates are regularly being identified and corrected.

Re: 1884 VAM-3A

Adding CC to the date in your title would probably generate more views and comments. PCGS and NGC don't attribute this VAM. Why? PCGS by and large doesn't give a rat's behind about VAMs to begin with. I suspect they'd rather attribute fewer different VAMs, not more. NGC probably should attribute thi...

Re: 1882-o 38-b value

I don't have many MS64 sales in my database, but I'd say that in the current market $240 is too high:

1882-O 38B 64 NGC Mar-12 PP $250
1882-O 38B 64 PCGS Nov-15 E $175
1882-O 38B 64 ANACS Jan-22 E $145
1882-O 38B 64 PCGS Aug-21 E $112

odd stuff on this 1921-D

It seems like half of the 1921-Ds I pick up these days are not shown in the die crack break and scribbles guides. Yesterday was a bad day, though; it was 2 out of 2. Any help would be most appreciated. My first thought was pitting, but maybe it's gouges? pitting TAT.jpg Strange gouges at O in DOLLAR...

Re: 1885 Morgan CC GSA

My reaction is 62 with a shot at 63. But there tends to be very little price difference between MS60 and 63.
