Re: Clashed 1921-S

Exactly. Didn't know of the scoreboard. But the upper reverse clash transfers are uncommon with E clashes except in extraordinarily strong clashes or double clashes. Unfortunately the counterparts on the obverse (reverse devices transferred) are not easily found due to the structure of the obverse d...

Re: Clashed 1921-S

Any hint of cotton blossom clash transfer in the lower right field? That is commonly correlated and the clashing at the n/In is often not there or strong on E transfers.

Re: Several local show picks...

Yeah, the original attributions for the Peace Top 50 labeled a lot of VAM-1V as VAM-1B. I forget, but the VAM-1V might not have been yet discovered and listed. Actually, I am pretty sure the VAM-1V was listed a year or so after the Top 50 was published and attributions made by the TPGs.

Re: SSDC Inventory question

Raw coins are too problematic. We were careful as to which TPGs to admit. When it comes to raw coins, it would be impossible to keep them straight and uniquely identify them. It would become a real mess in time as raw coins end up getting slabbed and are dually represented. (Same can happen with cro...

Reunited with an old VAM friend

The first VAM discovery I had was the 1896-O VAM-10A, nearly 20 years ago. It was a PCGS MS62PL though. So I could not responsibly keep it like a first dollar to frame and put on the wall. Long since sold and probably in a major set today. Well, here at Long Beach, someone walked up with a box of co...

OT: Whoops!

Lost its marvelous reverse toning. Mistakes like this should not be possible.

Re: A couple of FUN show purchases

I bought absolutely nothing at the show. It was an enormous exercise in self-control too. Did enjoy seeing others' acquisitions a great deal though. Almost as satisfying? Hmm.

Re: Orlando FUN Roll Call

Never have been prepared to go to a major coin show so fast and early. Bringing all of the Trade dollars, since I am doing a presentation on Trade die varieties. Also bringing baker's dozen of certified ancients, my better certified Ikes and Silver Eagles, a bunch of rare Colonial currency, some Dan...

Re: SSDC Registry Status

The problem is that twelve years later the database service, the operating system, and the web service daemon all have changed quite significantly. Even after locating all the new places configurations are, the OS implemented new security beyond just the firewall (which also changed) that was pruden...

Re: Strange question on the 1900-O/CC vams

I had brought that up earlier but had not followed it up. There also are no O/CC prooflikes. Maybe Roger has seen some documentation relating that they were returned unused reverse dies? Reusing reverses in Carson City over years, too, is something to pursue. I know it was an extensive practice for ...

Re: SSDC Registry Status

I found out there is armor in the newest versions that do not allow httpd to connect to mysql, sendmail, etc. Ran a net advised tool and it destroyed the root filesystem and would not reboot. Rebuilding from scratch. The copying will require 12 hours and then I can do all of the reconfiguration. I s...

Re: SSDC Registry Status

Interesting. This came up in my Facebook "Memories" this morning. So this means that we got 12 years out of the last server.

Re: SSDC Registry Status

The old box shut down at about 10:30pm last light. It only overheated. I moved the physical box to the garage where the internet broadband connection is and where my wife can get to it in my absence. If it shuts down from overheating while at the show, I can call my wife and have her turn it back on...

Re: SSDC Registry Status

I was able to fix the password encryption. The database connection is apparently the final problem to solve. So I set the real registry server to respond now to the original URL but it will hand it over to the temporary server. The temporary server now has a red warning bar on the login page warning...

Re: SSDC Registry Status

Everything is up and running on the new server except one thing. The latest mkpasswd that encrypts your password to see if it matches has changed. The worst case would be everyone would need new passwords. The older mkpasswd did short encryptions with 2-character salts, the old UNIX /etc/passwd thin...

Re: SSDC Registry Status

Code is all installed. I believe I got all of the needed packages installed too. The coxe.net server was stopped; the database backed up; and is enroute to the new server. Takes about 5 or 6 minutes. Then set the static address; move it into the data center; and bring it back up. We would then be on...

Re: SSDC Registry Status

Here is the deal. The registry server died and I could not recover it easily yet. There was a backup of the code area on 27 Sept, before I left for the last Long Beach Show. Only things missing are the three months of uploaded images after that date and a few very minor bug fix code changes. The dat...

Re: SSDC Registry Status

The rehosted server died. It overheated and didn't restart because the keyboard wasn't found. It got inadvertently disconnected when I deinstalled the original server. PS2 connector -- that's how old the system is. I plugged the keyboard back in and restarted. Should run for now. But I will see if I...

Orlando FUN Roll Call

I didn't see a thread here for the show, so starting one. Who is planning to attend the FUN show next week in Orlando? Will you make the VAM Thing on Friday afternoon? Are you setting up? I will be set up at corner booth 319 (Select Rarities). Also at the table will probably be Brent (fogie) and And...

Re: SSDC Registry Status

Any update on this? Am I the only one that's been trying and failing to get in for the last couple days? Try the link above and here ( registry.coxe.net ). The update is that the Registry will continue to run rehosted on this very old server. The only things missing presently are the image uploads ...
