ANACS Grades In
Believe it or not, I still do VAMs. Many in my order are actually VAMs. Many of these are 1900-S ones that I still had from my die study that Brent didn't send in in our collaboration to get the date straightened out. The others were ones I had raw for years, mostly ones that I never got around to s...

Re: 1921 Peace pattern silver coated copper, looking for info
Do you have a Judd number for it? I do not recall Peace patterns. There was a 1921 Morgan pattern struck in nickel. As for whether such an item would be plated before or after, it would almost certainly have been after. I sent a gold-plated O/S Morgan to Daniel Carr for his Moonlight Mint Open House...

Re: First VAM Thing
Great to revisit some of the VAM Things I attended and see others I missed, (Funny how I always seem to have sat in the same seat.) Hopefully, someone, perhaps in the organization, will continue David Lisot's documenting of these meetings. I seem to remember at least some of the Long Beach NSDR meet...

One to look for also is an 1875-CC with a medium CC repunched over a small cc. Only found one so far.

Obverse is I30, used also on C-11. New reverse I214. Die pair is the new C-22.1.

Yes, they are. And for seven bucks (each) you can add a groovy show label to your submitted coins.

Yeah, it means JR is reviewing your coins. I look for it for my submissions a few times daily like a nut. I have one there now and am timing it. *taps toe* (It'll be done by the time I get to Denver in a couple weeks I hope.)

Re: The Greysheet aka The Bible
It is very nice to use the app and online access that comes with the appropriate subscription (often a bundle special). It has links to auctions for each grade too, many that you won't find in coinfacts. In the past, it was worth an issue once or twice a year. Now this does add genuine value.

Re: 1883-S VAM-17
I was just looking at those as I bought one that appears to be unlisted. Yours is probably VAM-17. That lower S is pretty distinct. A few not listed as engraved leaves, older listings, do have them as well. The obverse also appears to be a VAM-17 lock. That gouge at the hair tip below the designer's...

Thanks for being dressed when you shot the pics. I have seen a couple eBay lots of shiny things where the seller was not so careful about in that regard.

Re: Something feels off in the world today
It's fun to have goals. And heck, I just might even get within striking range of you two in a bit. Heritage just helped me out by selling a MS63 VAM 7A that nobody else seemed interested in, so that will boost my set... I doubt that is the one I sold Jeff years back (cert ends in 0083). He won't be...

Re: Something feels off in the world today
You could find a new 1878-CC variety. ......or you could ask me where that VAM-14A I registered yesterday is for sale and break out the wallet (after confirming my hesitant attribution).

Re: A 2012 John Roberts apparitional find?
I agree with vamsterdam. Used to see these with some frequency 30 years or so ago. I got lucky finding a PCGS 65 or 66 a while back, after not seeing one for years and none since. The VAM-8, I think, is the sleeper for the date though. I have only found one ever. Rarer than the VAM-6 and the VAM-9. ...

I had a prooflike VAM-9 and that piece is in a completely different league. It was clearly a different strike.

Re: Grading FEES
I don't find ICG inferior. Their holders are scuff magnets, but their grading is not that bad. The propaganda of one or two grading services to grab marketshare has moved a lot of conservatively graded ANACS and ICG coins, via crossover, to PCGS and NGC, also for their registry participation and CAC...
