Re: 1892 die crack or break?

Pretty much looks like a cracked planchet or other planchet defect, although it could be a die break, since it doesn't go into the rim. Either way, it doesn't matter, since the coin is a fake.

Re: 1892 die crack or break?

A picture is critical here, but I'm thinking you either have a split planchet or a nasty knife cut.

Re: Part 2 of the 1884-CC and 1883-O Branch Mint Suspects

Those are simply prooflike business strikes. Too bad about the axe fight that Liberty got into on the 83-O. There are legitimate 83-O branch mint proofs, and the dies were identified as a specific VAM (maybe 19 -- can't remember). There is no confirmation that there are any 84-CC branch mint proofs.

Re: new website

There'll be plenty of notifications on the old VAMWorld as well as here about when this will happen so that everyone can fasten their seat belts for whatever unexpected turbulence we may encounter. I'm hoping it's not too clumsy when I make the cut-over.

Cool! 15 years is just the criminal part. Now let's see what kind of damages NGC gets to take this guy for.

The information will be migrated to a new website that will look and behave like Wikipedia. Here's a sample of what to expect:

Paralyse here (Adam), long time habitué at CCF and eternal VW lurker. I like the new forum a lot and should now be able to post a lot more as a result ;) ... I collect everything, but my main passions are silver Washington quarters, Morgans of course, early American copper & German States coins/med...

Wow, those are strong. I'm surprised not to see anything like it in the CPG, but then Walkers are rather under-represented there.

Re: 1881-O Update for June

The confusion between 81-O VAM 1H and VAM 40 stems from the fact that strike and die wear both vary among coins. I will no longer call anything VAM 1H, because I'm convinced it is the same as VAM 40 after looking at about 1000 81-Os as a result of this project. The doubling on the ear is not always ...

Back from Summer Seminar

For the fourth time, I've had the pleasure and privilege of teaching the Collecting and Investing in Morgan Dollars class at the ANA Summer Seminar this week. We had 9 awesome students who enjoyed "drinking through a fire hose" as we covered history, grading, toning, problem coins, design evolution,...

Re: Just wondering

Once everything is worked out, the new VAMWorld should have the same features as the old one, including VotW and a familiar looking home page, and hopefully a lot of improvements. The only thing that concerns me a little right now is the "VAMs by date" pages, based on how it's currently constructed,...

On 78-S reverses, I usually start and end with the engraved feather under the eagle's right wing. From here, it looks like the 24/30/43 reverse.

Summer Seminar Newp

So one of the cool things about the ANA Summer Seminar is their library book sale. Tons of books available for really good prices, all of which were donations to the sale. I picked up some good references the first day, when everything is full price and you need to act fast to get the premium stuff ...

That's a big planchet inculsion. It makes sense that they body-bagged it as a normal coin, since it's has a big negative effect on eye appeal.
