Re: Incomplete planchet clipped 1921 in the vam-3 area

Not VAM 3AA2, as there's no gouge from the nock of the arrows. Can't tell anything further from the pictures.

Re: 1882O Morgan VAM 22a with split denticles

That's been determined to be machine doubling. It happens on several 83-O varieties as well, and moves around from coin to coin.

The pictures aren't that conducive to grading, but 63-64 looks reasonable. Nice coin!

Re: Beveled Field Capped R

My question about "beveled field" as a listable die feature received a negative response. Under the previous leadership of Leroy Van Allen there were several VAM listings with "Beveled Denticles" included in the main description which are currently posted on the Page. Examples are: 1878 S VAM 37A 1...

Re: !891 o corrections needed?

I have no problem eliminating VAM 4A as a duplicate of 3A, especially since the discover coins was in low grade. Consider it gone.

Re: !891 o corrections needed?

I think you're right. The specification for VAM 21 indicates the cuds in later die stages, although this wasn't shown on the text on VAMWorld. I fixed that. The VAM book shows the mint mark for VAM 4 as being tilted right and slightly high, as specified for VAM 21. The only picture Leroy took of the...

Re: 1883 CC Help

I see some 5B in it but would it be a new progression? 1883-CC VAM 5 is a very deep rabbit hole. There were multiple minor clash and minor polishing events in the die progression, but many of these stages weren't "significant". I have examples of VAM 5 in over a dozen distinguishable die states; in...

Re: New 78-S ??

Sure looks like a V1C/95 Reverse to me. I cant place the obverse to 1C or 95. Is there a goober on the R of America like 1C/95? It sure looks like the B2a Reverse. I hope you get e new listing and not a die 2 of this or that. Its amazing to me that new die pairs are coming to light. I thought the 7...

Great score! No idea on the value, but the coolness factor is definitely worth something.

Re: Need Help with 1921, broken E Obv

The color change around this further supports some sort of struck thru debris error. Can't explain the flow lining, but this might be natural on a filled die that's already well worn. Wouldn't mind seeing additional examples Could be the debris was impacted in the die long enough to develop flow li...

Re: Need Help with 1921, broken E Obv

I'd guess it's a strike thru, but could be an unfortunately placed hit. Not buying this as an actual die thing I don't think it's in the die either. The flow lines are vexing, though. Another possibility is that there was a gas bubble here when struck which later deflated, collapsing the top of the...

Re: 1878s VAM-18A

VAM 18 is usually found in XF-AU, often with problems. Uncirculated ones are much tougher. The XF-AU count is probably underrepresented in the registry because it's not on as many want lists or in as many collections as the long nocks.
