Yeah, seems like something strange happened regarding that VAM.

Re: 1880-O Elimination Question RE-DONE

VAM 66 was determined to be a duplicate of 51 a couple days ago and was eliminated. The VAM 58 pictures are mine, taken to improve on pictures that were previously on the page. There are no pictures of VAM 58 in the 2005 supplement, which is when it would have been first listed. The pictures on the ...

It would seem that the SSDC info page on the Wiki is a few years out of date. And, yes, I'm going to lock this thread, since no further good will come from not locking it.

Nice! I see what you mean by the third spike. Looks like a candidate for being poked with a stick to remove some of that brown crud.

Re: Seeking some logic regarding 1878 VAM80A / VAM80B listings.

Ignore the rarity numbers. They were estimates from when the VAM was first listed. I think the rarest is the VAM 80 with no cracks (Clay can confirm). Its existence is keeping me from eliminating VAM 80B.

Re: Help w/1882 S plz

The edited picture that Mike7E posted illustrates an important point. It is difficult to see what the tilt of the mint mark is when the photo is also tilted. Try to make sure that the line drawn across the bottoms of the ribbon is perfectly horizontal. In this case, that would show plainly that the ...

Re: A new look at ‘21-D JOH-3

I often wonder about the JOH-21 & 22. The JOH-22 has more going on than the JOH-21 but both should have a VAM number since all Morgans are VAMs - correct? I'm going to take some pictures of the 21 & 22 and see if we can identify anything significant to give it a VAM number other than a VAM 1. I not...

Re: 1923-S Super collar

Colwillys, I think I understand what you fellow Vam Gentlemen are talking about. Is this the same thing that's on my 1922s? The rim is angled and is that what makes the (say) groove around the rim. Thanks just trying to understand... On your coin, the reeds on the edge are visible while viewing the...

I don't see where VAM 66 has been eliminated. I have no record of eliminating it and Leroy's records still show that it's cataloged.

In the "die profile," below, you're saying the peripheral face (rim) struck the upper surface of a collar and was "clashed" with it leaving an impression of the cuts used to make the collar. Is that correct?
Yes.

Re: 1923-S Super collar

If the reeding is otherwise normal (coin struck fully in collar) and there's additional reeding on the rim, it would be a collar clash, where the hammer die hit the collar die before striking this coin.
