Re: What is the correct term? - Solved
This posting has tracked sideways. The term I will be using will be “ Sintered Die ”. I first found the term on a Canadian Coin website, in metallurgy references and it fits the look perfectly for the 1889 VAM’s 23B stage 3&4, VAM 30 and VAM 49. The highlighted 3rd paragraph of Wayne’s provided LVA ...

Re: 1900 p- VAM-Misstrike- Error- What is it? Just Checking
Due to the recent posting of a discovery coin that I was working on in vain, I need to ask about this, my very first post on the forum, which has never been solved. In plain clear terms: Do any site administrators, members, or non members have any knowledge of this possible new VAM being mentioned t...

Re: 1896-P Possible Discovery?
Just Curious- I posted about this back in Dec 27, 2021 "1896 P Vam 4 or 4a?" with this Discovery coin. I did more research, sought and found a second coin to show subsequent coins and re-submitted the post on the forum as directed by the instructions. I looked this morning and magically a "NEW 1896 ...

1896-P Possible Discovery?
1896-P Possible Discovery? I am re-submitting for review by members of the forum a possible new die stage discovery of 1896-P VAM 4/4A Double Star Top 100, before proceeding to actual submission as the guidelines say. My previous post, “1896-P Vam 4 or 4a”, received little to no feedback, other than...

Re: Collar Clash
Then what is it called when the denticles are called when they are mashed 1/2 way in a semicircular fashion? Imo, that's an error due to ejection impact or die slide when the coin was ejected right after struck. Would that ejection impact account for all of my 96 Vam 4a's and the image posted on Va...

Re: Collar Clash
This is found on the 1896 4a, not the 4. I was seeking the correct term, without calling it correct term.
I believe now that it is a denticle clash, just not noted on the VAM, like the die crack above the AT in states

OK
Then is it just considered a clash on the denticles, crushing them 1/2 way down?

Collar Clash
Is this a collar clash?
It is approximately from 5:00 to 10:00 and follows the rough diameter of a Morgan. The denticles crush deeper towards the center.
Thanks in advance

Noticed on the Top 100 value list published earlier this year that the 1896 Vam 4 and 4a are missing

Re: What is the correct term?
I asked because the 1889 23 A/B, Vam 30 and Vam 49 all have the same atypical die erosion. Could have been a bad batch of die material, like our wonderful 70's cars, just rusted sooo bad. But the Vam 30 has a brush pattern of this erosion by the neck, bolstering the argument that the die polisher us...

Re: peculiar 21d reed queation
I promise I will never use the term 'mini center reed' John, I never meant to squirrel you. I simply have a very unique coin and found this reeding on the edge. In one of the first contacts I had on ANA's discussions, I was reminded that every coin has 3 sides, so I check now. I appreciate your dre...

Re: peculiar 21d reed queation
Thanks for the advise and explanation. Thinking deeper about it, VAM's are dies, not reeds.

peculiar 21d reed queation
Picked up a nice 21d and checking all 3 sides, we discovered a peculiar raised mini-reed.
Does anyone have the explanation for this and what it would correctly be called?
Thanks in advance

The big elephant in the room question.....
Does PCGS through their insurance use PCGS posted values of the coin(s) that was stolen/lost to make you whole?

What was the cycle time? (ship to and received back)
I still like the curved top on the holders, it would be nice if the VAM # were up there too to find at a glance.

Re: What is the correct term?
Thanks-
I've also got a weird reed that I need to take a pic of and that I would like to know about as well, and what it's called. It's like a mini raised reed in-between regular reeds on a 21D.
Be safe
