Need help Understanding PITTING

I have an 1881 S spiked 8 (unknown vam yet) with what looks like a patch of dense contained pitting directly in front of the eye and down cheek bone a bit and at first thought it was just pitting. Maybe its common for 1881 S? Looking closer almost looks squiggly on surface. Im having a lighting issu...

Re: 1882-O VAM-36 O/O Center Dubious Listing

I know, I was reluctant to even post it lol but its a head scratcher, along side from same roll a different 82 O looks dramatically different, I will have full images up soon. I might poke it with a stick first....

1882-O VAM-36 O/O Center Dubious Listing

I recently picked this 1882 O with what looks like O/O Center but it is listed as a Dubious Listing so before I send up full coin, I could use some opinions on if you think this is machine doubling or an O/O.

SSDC Inventory question

Question for other SSDC members. In my collection are graded & attributed, graded not attributed and raw coins not attributed (officially yet). The inventory feature is great however, it is only for graded coins. Most on my inventory list are graded but not officially attributed on the label. Using ...

1921-P D2 VAM-3 16 Berry crack help

I grabbed this pick hoping I was seeing a tail feather gouge (no good). The 1921 P D2 is quite a listing and will need some guidance with this one. I was thinking I just have a V3 but looking at the crack guide, this has very faint cracks. Can anyone with more experienced in 1921 P D2 tell me if the...

One of my favorite coins! To the point of attempting a bit of holiday fun in the past: http://www.vamworld.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=5980&p=50301 . Re: 1882 O 38B WOW O/O?? HELP

No matter what conclusions come forth here about O/O or etc, This v38B needs more research work as many PUP'S are also on 1882 o/s, which is only natural. Rust is but one of 38B that is a huge PUP on O/S- Ive been calling for some in know to look at 38B further, to no avail I love 38B with all goin...

Re: 1882 O 38B WOW O/O?? HELP

There's a long history of questions that got real answers from a 'poke it with a stick' reply I'll bet man, have seen you say that in a few posts. Just poking atcha lol The 1882 O never ceases to amaze me. Somehow I missed this vam and it is one of the coolest so far. Could definitely use more rese...

Re: New to VAM searching and may go crazy

Big thanks to everyone for all the insight! I'm beginning to understand how to use the unbelievable resources this site offers to determine what VAM's I might have. Now the real hunt begins and I'm certain I'll be bringing more questions to the group. :D I did the same thing when I first started a ...

Re: Help- 1880-S Doubled date, medium S centered and upright, slightly high Multiple lettering. Clashed die with letters

Yes, I commented that the clash did not look like the full n should show, but there are too many straight lines at angles in the blob for it to be anything else. Tried to fit the whole I there and part of the n but that didn't work. If I can get my Photoshop loaded (new PC but no CD port and online...

Re: Is this a Gouge, scratch or something else?

Here is an observation that might help, using a loupe 7X from every angle it looks like a gouge even a double (split) one. The coin surfaces are PL and if I get the angle just right, the "gouge" appears to shine like the surface, like a polished path right down the middle of the haze. So maybe this ...
