Re: 78-S VAM-28 with doubled LIBERTY?
Yeah, VAM 28. Take a look at the VAM 8 page. That doubling is plated by Van Allen Yup, see that now and blindingly obvious! Oops. Wondering if the guide page - http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com/wiki/1878-S_B2_Varieties - can be amended to move the VAM-28 from the " 4th Star Br...

78-S VAM-28 with doubled LIBERTY?
ShamShield 's question about a 78-S that possibly turned out to be a VAM-16 ( http://www.vamworld.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=6823&p=56348#p56348 ) got me to looking at another coin I have. Definitely not a 16, but shares the reverse... therefore a 20 or a 28. Forehead and cotton leaf PUPs are th...

1898-O V15 obv with normal and slight right tilt O mm?
Convinced this is a VAM-15 obverse based on the date placement (normal, but almost near), the characteristic doubling of the 1 and a fairly similar doubling seen on the second 8: 1898-O 15obv-normal O tilt right mm date digits gredfeather.jpg but the MM is not high to my eye and and, if anything, se...

F/u on JB's 91-O 1A2 purchase...
Thought I'd post this here as it is related to what it's worth and not general topics... messydesk your recent purchase was a GREAT one ( http://www.vamworld.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=6899 ) and one I am admittedly insanely jealous of... I'm curious to learn about the apparent 'steal' I'm seeing...

Re: 1881 S questions
Always start with the date and the mint mark. Of the pictures you posted, those are the two that are needed to attribute this coin. I don't see any clash marks of note. 81-S can be difficult to attribute due to frequent machine doubling, but this one isn't hard. Your initial assessment is on the ri...

OT: The original 'Hot Lips'?
Prompted by the wonderful post and pictures by vampicker http://www.vamworld.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=6831 , I thought I'd add a bit of my own fun. Here's a lovely lady, Hera, who, according to Wikipedia "is the goddess of marriage, women and family, and the protector of women during childbirth...

16 is still a fun coin - nice find, What I've found is the chip on the eagle's chest (also found on VAM-28) is as easy to spot as it is to miss... but sometimes it looks like the eagle has been shot (even in low resolution photos)...
