"CAGC also stands for 'chronic angle-closure glaucoma' that can have significant (negative) impacts on clarity of vision..."
Maybe it was intentional.....?

Re: 1904 Research Info.
I will post that info when I have it all from CY 1904. The New Orleans die table has a 2-page cover letter explaining the all the obverse dies were defaced/destroyed at New Orleans. The cancelled obverse and all reverse dies were shipped to Philadelphia for examination. Usable reverse dies were renu...

Re: Obscure third party grading question
Not likely that the grade is correct, but "on occasion even a blind squirrel finds an acorn". Hence, buy the coin & not the holder. HEY! WHAT THE?!? [Squirrels find buried nuts by smell, not sight. They also know to search within their territory.] A "broken clock" is not right twice a day. Passage ...

Re: Obscure third party grading question
Comment: There are a lot of AU-58 (and lower circulated) coins siting in MS-XX holders from all three major TPGs. The same applies to EF coins in AU-XX holders. Collectors have to learn not to depend on ANY TPG to present consistent, reliable, accurate "grades" any more. That horse left the gate lon...

Re: 1904 Research Info.
I've scanned and reviewed archive files for late-December 1903 through May 1904. There is quite a bit of information on Philippine coinage, proof sets, and recoining of Spanish coins, among other topics. Relating to Messydesk's questions, it appears that the intention was to use all of the remaining...

Re: Something for a little fun.
Based only on the telegrams I've seen in Mint archives, errors on receipt were common. There's a thick file box of coded telegrams at NARA in Philadelphia. I went through some of them, but found nothing out of the ordinary. (I wish they'd tossed these and kept all the die records !)

Re: Something for a little fun.
Many businesses used single words to represent lengthy standard phrases or instructions. The Mint changed its codes occasionally and sometimes used day/date surrogates. The biggest savings for the Mints were in spelled-out denominations: "One million two hundred twenty-five thousand silver dollars t...

Something for a little fun.
For several years the U.S. Mint Bureau used coded telegrams to report coin production and occasionally coin movements. The primary reasons for this were security of coinage data, and reductions in telegram costs. (A telegram was charged by the word. One code word could represent many individual word...

I've digitized correspondence for 1904 to Mint HQ from the coinage mints and assay offices. Here is a little sample. (There is more on the New Orleans Mint in the files.) NO Mint.jpg The following boxes have been scanned, including the Cashier's Daily Statements. Files are available on NNP's website...

But.....It's the very, very rare 1878-O. Obviously a pattern and worth thousands. It's also the famous "VAM 0" variety -- says so right in the VanAlien-Malice biblical thingy..... !
PS: The coin shown in the link is also a counterfeit.

Messydesk is right. Some have set up tents next to the data centers in this area. They charge their phones and laptops off the stray electromagnetic energy near the buildings....

Wow! Did not know the "Colorado Counterfeiter" was branching out into Morgan dollars! He's getting better -- all the way up to 2nd grade art!
