Re: Sleeper Set

I am actually surprised that we do not yet have a cud set, completable or not. I wish we had noticed the Hot Lips cud state earlier. At this point, we have so many (the most registered VAM) registered, that it is impractical to revisit them all to see which are that state. It would be interesting to...

While were on clashes, 1884-S VAM 11A is a very strong In and ust clash, and even I like it. I don't know if there are more known than just the discovery coin.
Most definitely. THAT one is one of the few I still look for.

Re: Sleeper Set

Another is 1898-S VAM-15A. Nice bold st clash. The two I had were both DMPL (64DMPL and 62DMPL), suggesting they remediated by polishing the dies. Just missed the hair vee area. The clash was likely on par with the 1889 VAM-23A. I almost didn't send them in to LVA because of their value as common va...

Re: n-n good!

I have had some extremely high grade VAM-203s. VAM-203A? I think I found a single one and it was an AU. That is an amazing coin there. 203A I know it is a 203A. Just saying that I had never even found any mint state one. In this grade, it is pretty awesome. Without the clash, it is an entirely diff...

Re: Sleeper Set

1881-O VAM 16. Cool collapsed reverse die, always DMPL. Obverse still DMPL on its next marriage. Of the 1000ish coins I went through on Hawkeeye's 81-O project, I think maybe 2 were VAM 16. This variety is both rare and cool. That is funny and it is one I definitely like. I had at least 3 of them i...

Sleeper Set

Suppose we wanted to assemble a set of somewhat interesting and somewhat rare VAMs that seem to be jamming the VAM radar. What would be some candidates? These are often hidden in dates that have big VAMs already hoarding all of the focus. Others in dates that never seem to get attention or are too e...

Did the Mint roll dollars in 1878? I seem to recall that was not a thing at the time.

Something is messed up there. It certainly does not reflect valuations in our VAM Value Guide.

Re: What is a Die Study?

A die study is a way to fill my cases at shows with Morgan dollars of the same date that take forever to sell. But it helps flesh out the listings, eliminating duplicates, adding new discoveries, sometimes determining die use sequences, lots of fun stuff. Is @fogie filling your cases with his die s...

Which census? The ones on pages here or at the SSDC Registry. The latter is generally as up to date as possible, because it involves input from scores of actives participants/users. Here has a small number of folks who maintain and update pages.

Re: SSDC

ssdcvams.com That was the server Ash ran. Might have gone away or the DNS is not right. It does remind me that we need a checkboz each year, for the January Board meeting, to report the expiration of the domain. The year when it is coming up, we need to pay the renewal fee in time, so nobody buys i...

Tough one to find in the wild. They always seem to be XF/AU. Not sure that I have ever seen a convincing mint state example. Most certainly, these all went into circulation.

Some Available Varieties

I updated my EIN on eBay and they are now holding all of my sales payouts and threatened suspension if I do not produce the letter (requested from the IRS, taking 4-6 weeks to receive) proving it is mine. Of course, their deadline is well before it will probably get here. So, in the meantime, I gues...
