Re: 1880 P.......VAM-43

I'm thinking PMD as well. I think mine is correctly attributed and it has no such neck.

Re: New to forum, quick question.

Interesting. I will let the experts weigh in. Meanwhile this overlay of an obverse and reverse gives you an idea of where counterclashed features show.

Re: New to forum, quick question.

Posting pictures is fine. They are not ready to have you send actual coins in for evaluation of assigning new VAM.

Re: ebay bidding history

Depends on coin price - above $500 the automatic increment is $10.

Check this page, and if still an issue I would contact them.

Re: When is a scratch not a scratch

Better straight on pics, plus one tilted a little, all with digital camera. Added another tilted quite a bit with Iphone. The scratches are very shallow on the face and show only when coin is rotated just so in the light.

Re: When is a scratch not a scratch

Another iPhone pic. I’ll get real camera out in next couple days to make better ones. iPhone pics tend to be a bit harsher.

Re: When is a scratch not a scratch

I guess I was thinking this coin graded "details" looks a lot better than many coins graded 60 or 61, as well as unattractively toned coins, and the "details" grade is overly punitive. It does show the scratches I mentioned if you get the light right - no argument, yet none of them jump out to me. I...

When is a scratch not a scratch

Picked up this PCGS graded 1886 Vam 20 misplaced date, and expected much worse based on pics used in ad. I’ve wanted one for a long time and have come to realize they are extremely tuff and very expensive if seller knows what they’ve got. I decided to buy this UNC details coin at a discount due to “...

Re: Dents in coins

I'm not sure you would get a grade on either of the coins because of the dents/rim damage, and those might be cleaned as well. If so, a third party grader (TPG) would give you a "details" classification, such as "AU Details" or "XF Details", followed by "Damaged" or "Cleaned"... Nonetheless those ar...

Re: Affordable coin camera/ magnifier

I have used a Celestron 5 MP Pro with stand and get reasonable results. This gets details directly from scope into computer. Set you back a little over $130 on Amazon, but you can look around of course. Color comes out a little funky but if you have any kind of photo program you can adjust that out ...

Re: USPS Tracking

Sorry but from my experience the short answer is no. I've had several such experiences. You or seller can file for lost package on the usps site, but I'm not sure it does any good as they rely on tracking electronically like you do. If its any consolation, I have packages actually be moving, and our...

1880 P Help

I have a PCGS MS63 1880 P that I cannot match to existing VAMs. Select pics attached. The __80 is clearly doubled, and perhaps the 1 and first 8 as well. Generally, I don't see any single outstanding attribute, rather there are both extensive die polishing and small gouges on obverse, and mild but b...

Re: 1880 VAM 39a - Value and Crossover Advice Please

No. I have a couple coins I'd really like to have graded by PCGS, or maybe NGC that would be at top of range. However, we have had USPS issues in the past year and I frankly hate to chance it. They delivered an empty envelope to someone I sold a coin to, about 10 days late. They found the loose coin...

1880 VAM 23 80/79 nice example

Things seem a little slow, so I thought I'd post pics of a recent buy that is one of my favorite coins. I'd wanted a nice one for a long time, but most had weak to questionable overdates, and were priced too high for my budget. Got lucky in this buy as it was not advertised as a Top VAM. It is minim...

Re: 1889 O 1a1 or 1a2?

Thanks for both responses. That makes sense. I incorrectly interpreted "Late clashed die states show double clashed E" as including obverse clashing as well. It means what it said and no more.

Thanks!

1889 O 1a1 or 1a2?

I'm conflicted on this one. Specifically the 1889 O VAM 1a2 pictures show only a double clash, and indicate the double clash is a late die state, indicating there is a single clash version. An obvious distinction while comparing 1a1 and 1a2 is the pseudo doubling at the front of the neck from the ja...

1880 VAM 39 Wreath Gouge

I picked up a 1880-P VAM 39 with gouged wreath, but no clashes, in very nice uncirculated condition. It is not graded but should be I think 62 or 63. I think the 1a and 39 both are very interesting, while the unclashed 39 by itself is not on any list. It would get my vote for favorite VAM not on a l...
