Re: Updated Peace clashing with letter transfer info?

The 'E on reverse' are truly elusive VAMS, almost to the point of abstraction. I think PCGS has one 1D2 and two 1BBs, one of which is misattributed and not actually 1BB at all. I haven't seen the others or looked it up recently. Less than a handful of known clashed Peace specimens that actually hav...

Updated Peace clashing with letter transfer info?

No, silly, I'm not changing my focus from the light to dark side (just yet), but I am a stickler for updating information. I see from http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com/wiki/PEACE_VAM_Attribution_101#Die_Clashing that there are supposedly less than a handful of clashed Peace var...

Re: New Book pick up, I think first edition of Guide To Morgan and Peace Dollars

The 1971 red and white book is the oldest VAM book, as it is the first collaboration between Leroy and Mallis. The 1965 book with the black and polka-dot cover is the first book that has Leroy's die numbering nomenclature in it. It also has catalog numbers that would become those used in the VAM bo...

Re: New Book pick up, I think first edition of Guide To Morgan and Peace Dollars

Nope... there is an older one from 1965... but I don't believe this is the oldest either.

And, yes, I have this in my hand and refer to it often...

Re: 1878-P VAM-116C EDS and VAM-140 confusion

Thanks vamnuke , but this information is still missing my question. I know all of this - the question has to do with how the obverse PUPs changed over time when the pairing went from the 116C to the 140 (technically only die #2): there are some that continue (chip behind the eye, crack at neck, scra...

Check the 'O' in God. 116 has a closed 'O', 140 the 'O' is open.
Sorry, meant to be more clear. I'm talking obverses here, not reverses.

Re: 1881 O OVER POLISHED REVERSE

Fantastic questions and additional pictures. The more easy thing to address is the gash in front of Liberty's neck - I'd guess PMD as I've never seen this on any other coin but it is very curious! The mixture of what I'm now seeing suggests this is back to a VAM-16: the obverse PUPs all point to tha...

1878-P VAM-116C EDS and VAM-140 confusion

Hi all, Perhaps this is a die 1 vs die 2 thing for the 140/140A, but I can't figure it out based on the information on the webpages. It also might be that the pictures on the 140 page are from a rather worn coin that is hiding a few features... I have what I believe is a 116C EDS. It's stated the 11...

Re: 1881 O OVER POLISHED REVERSE

The corrected (VAM-1J) designation makes sense to me based on the reverse. All of my 16s have the scratch line to the left of 'In' (GWT) and lack the lines in the upper right wing area on the eagle - yours lack the former and you see the latter agreeing with this. The spike in the first 8 and the fi...

Still begging the question if there is a 3/8 combo out there...? :P

Fingers crossed for ya - seems to be a straight-forward story and a good discovery one at that... How about I challenge you to find a V3 reverse with a new obverse pairing...?

I believe you might be one off... A VAM-117 (think I see a closed 'o' of God). If it's open, it's a VAM-141...

Fun pick: do you see what I saw?

They're still out there, in the wild, waiting to be spotted... A fun lit'l one picked up recently. Glad my eyes aren't as bad as they might be (and as poor as hers?).

Re: 1900 p.... VAM-Misstrike- Error- What is it?

Still sticking with my original thought, backed up by vampicker 's comments (as well as others): what you're seeing is on the surface of the coin or something that ended up altering the surface of the coin, after it was minted and released into the wild. Don't believe this has happened, but I'd (sti...

Amen. And every step in the right direction a good one?

@messydesk or @vampicker, if you agree this is a 12, I'll add pictures. What is your recommendation for the incorrect pics on the 7 page?
