Re: Great Collection Auctions

Not every significant VAM listed will be so identified, and I'm not referring to VAM-1. Can well remember how I loved to cherry pick so I've included slabs that are not attributed just to give everyone a chance to hone their VAM identification skills. Great Collections photos should make that much ...

You guys are hilarious! Thanks for the info. I was really just wanting to clarify that the U break is the only difference. Thanks! :)

1882-O Vam-17A vs 17B....

I recently picked up an ANACS attributed 17A in the cool old clear blue holder from the mid 2000s..but it has the break at U. Is the break the only difference between them? Meaning If it has it=17B and if not=17A? The Vamworld page for it is a little confusing. Thanks for any help!

Re: OT – guess the Buffalo grade

Congrats Dennis. Buffalo Nickels are the only coin series I have ever tried to build the entire set and I gave up a long time ago. I grade these more strict than other people. I would grade it a G-4

Did anyone win the Shifted Eagle that just ended?

I normally get zero replies when I ask about recently ended Vams...maybe this one will be different :?: ;) I kind of liked the "quiver arrows" graffitti. Would love to see pics if/when it is received if any of you got it(I usually say that too)!

Interesting surface on the obverse for sure. Thanks for posting. Is this a difficult Vam to find?

Re: Dalton Show...

I can't make this one, but hoping to be at BRNA in August. I went last year and it was great. I wasn't looking for Vams at that point, but I did get spend about an hour meeting, learning about Peace Vams and getting to know @davidkclose.

I'm glad someone got the 82-O 38B. It was tempting, but I decided to challenge myself to find one at the next show I go to! :)

Re: We all have our favorite Vams

Great thread and story. Thanks for starting this one! John Roberts probably doesn't remember this...but I was communicating with him through email many years ago. He "challenged me" (I don't know if he was even doing his yearly lists at that point) to find an 1883-P Vam 10. 2+ years later I was able...

Thanks for the info everyone. This one is an 84-O 37A2. I'm sure they are there, I'm just not seeing it as clearly as I would like. :|

Re: Should it be easy to see a MPD?

What vampicker said. It depends on the strength of the original misplaced strike, and how old the die is. In the 1885-O VAM 17, that 8 is very obvious on EDS examples, and sort of hard to see at all on LDS examples. Thanks for that example and the info on the LDS. The one I am having trouble with i...

This is not a one size fits all answer
Thanks John. In this case, I think it's just a difficult one to see. The more I look, the more I am seeing the same as what is showing on the page for the Vam...I'm just not understanding how it could be part of the numbers.

Should it be easy to see a MPD?

Specifically in denticles. I'm using a 16X loop and I'm not sure that I know what I am looking for. Any suggestions? Do I need stronger magnification?
