1922 Unknown VAM, Strong Obv Doubling
Very strong obverse doubling on this 1922. All digits in date are strongly doubled. LIB_R_Y are doubled with I and Y strongly doubled; I may be tripled. Four or more rays left of I are tripled, though starting with fifth ray they appear only doubled with no doubling beyond the eighth ray. Nose is do...

Re: 1923-S VAM-1AD5
Thanks, David. I do not see any obvious clash marks on the reverse, though as this thread attests I didn't know the marks under the E in LIBERTY were clash marks. I'm assuming they would be in the lower right reverse. Where exactly would it be? Attached are reverse photos for your review.

1924 vAM-2, 1-3, R-3 Question
Going through Peace dollars, I found a 1924 VAM-2 Doubled Reverse. Coin has very strong reverse doubling in all the locations identified on the listing page. So here comes my dumb question. VAM-2 is listed as a "Top 50" Peace dollar, yet the interest level is a 3 and the coin is a 3 on the rarity sc...

Re: 1923-S VAM-1AD5
Thanks, Vamsterdam. that's interesting. I would not have thought there could be clashes there, though I am only just beginning to explore Peace VAMs. I wondered about the marks between the rays and thought they had a clashed quality, but the raised marks right of last ray in field look like a gouge.

Re: Another 1925 Question, Rim Lines
I have not ever seen lathe lines or bezel damage; for the latter, has anyone seen bezel damage that has multiple rings (5 or 6)? If it is bezel damage, it would seem there were multiple, unsuccessful attempts to clamp the coin. Let that be a lesson to all you VAMbezelers. In any case, this 1925 appe...

1923-S VAM-1AD5
Pretty sure this is 1AD5 as I located the die scratches above 2 (from neck to below designer's initial) and under Y. However, I also see what appears to be a die gouge in the last two right rays of Liberty. The 1AD5 page has a single photo showing the die scratch at 2 but not the die scratch under Y...

Re: OT, a Bunnies riddle.
Lured_in_again is on to something. Picking up where others left off, I would guess it is a Washington quarter because Washington did not belong to any political party and Kennedy was a Democrat -- if both were alive today, they would not belong to the same party. What were the crises each president ...

Re: 1925 Excessive Reverse Pitting & Rust
Pareidolia is a word I learned here on VW. Great word. I think John B used it in reference to my seeing E’s on PEACE reverses that weren’t really there as well as n’s, t’s, and designer M’s. I’m still sure I saw the letter transfer on that very worn 1891-O 14A I found in a coin tube in my safe. I be...

1925 Excessive Reverse Pitting & Rust
I'm almost at the end of a roll of 1925 Peace dollars and have identified (I think) most of them. This is one is interesting. I could not find an existing VAM with "left" reverse pitting. There are a couple pitted/worn obverse dies in the mix. The pitting/rust/worn area is virtually the entire field...

Re: Trouble Identifying Beveled Field
Switching gears to a 1925 Peace dollar, here is more beveling, this time on reverse under PEACE. Looks like VAM-1N. This is very, very similar to the beveling I am seeing on the 1923 in that the beveled area is not raised but sloped from rim to field with heavy die file lines. The beveling runs from...

Re: Trouble Identifying Beveled Field
The beveled area under RSVT on 1AB1 appears like a cigar-shaped gouge is a short length. The beveling here is much longer running from the Y in LIBERTY to the 3 in date then narrows to a point just shy of the 9 and does not appear raised but evenly sloped from the rim to the field along this length....

Trouble Identifying Beveled Field
Because I have never seen a beveled field before, I am having trouble determining if this one has beveling at TRVST.

Re: Another 1925 Question, Rim Lines
Hmm. While I hate to think the lines were caused by a bezel, that seems to be where this is leading. The lines appear on obv and rev rims. The bezel would have to clamp to both sides.

Re: Another 1925 Question, Rim Lines
Thanks for your research, colwillys. I looked online for anything I could find on rim lines and collar clashes, etc., and found nothing. I'm afraid I don't have a scale. I'll have to see if the post office will weigh it for me. As for diameter, my Made in China wooden ruler distributed by CVS Pharma...
