Re: OT sort of

Well, I was going to go more OT than most - Happy Birthday Linus Pauling. I celebrated his birthday with him back in 1993 in Corvallis, Oregon, when he and his foundation were considering moving from California back to his educatial roots (OSU was called the Oregon Agricultural College when he atten...

Agree - two great additions! I'm all for adding them - and then finding them as I seem to be missing both.

Re: Spaghetti time here in Italy!!!!

Is Spaghetti time in Italy anything like it is in Switzerland? https://youtu.be/P2CO_a28R9U I'll admit, I wet myself a bit giggling uncontrollably as I have little doubt certain locals bought into this full bore... The BBC wouldn't LIE to the British citizens after all, right?! Nah... only unadulte...

Re: Spaghetti time here in Italy!!!!

BTW... if this is a 62 it'd beat my 61 that I was over the moon to find... A hugely beautiful coin all the way round.

Can't figure out why I want carbonara and chianti right now... 8-)

Re: Clashed 1921-S

Not seeing any 'E' with my eyes. You'd need to look for additional obverse and reverse PUPs that are usually found. For example, see the pages for 1878-P VAM-84A, 1880-P VAM-33A and 39A, 1883-O VAM 22A and 36A, 1884-P VAM-2A, 1886-O VAM 1A, 1887-P VAM-1B, 1888-O VAM-1Ax, 1889-O VAM1Ax and 20A, and, ...

Re: 1878 s possible VAM 2 MOTTO "IN GOD WE TRUST"

A huge amount of VAMs that year have the 'r' in trust broken - see the sections on http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com/wiki/1878-S_B2_Varieties to get you started. You'll need to do a lot of rulling out in order to eventually rule in a VAM-2. The 78S series is a favorite for many...

Nice to see you're applying your new knowledge on posting pictures - and encouraging you to do more! And welcome back to the community! Sorry to add, though, that this coin looks 'wrong' to me on multiple levels. Unnatural toning, unnatural textures, cleaned at some point, etc. I'd echo that there's...

Amen, Brother Kurt28 , amen. I'm tired of people reacting uncivilly to things that brings joy (and growth) to others. And complaining about things without offering up solutions. One from me: If you're trying to sell something here and your post starts getting relegated to the bottom because of new p...

Re: MY FIRST VAM THIS 2023!!!!!

Nice. I've been enamoured by this variety since seeing the pictures one of the PCGS65 DMPL coins on the SSDC registry site (linked to the Heritage sale in 2008),,, Multiple PL and DMPL coins registered so there are likely additional ones that'll take your breath away - even more so than your beauty!

Re: 1880 S new VAM?

Thanks MarkyB for info about the 51A. It appears to me that my example is a later die state than the 51A. The 51A lacks the die break & die displacement of my coin. The 32 is the earlier die state, next follows the 51A with the lump on the S, then the latest state my coin with lump & the die break ...

Re: 1880 S new VAM?

Love the 80S series, but these can be buggers to attribute. A few notes: Not a 32 - I don't think your picture clearly shows an S/S mintmark What you see near the wheat leaf is not a "A HEAVY DIAGONAL DIE GOUGE" - it's a minor PUP at best - yet nice to note Love the radial die crack near the E... mi...

Re: "22 P, is she worthy?

As a darkside outsider I'm curious if others more experienced could explain the acceptable level of what would constitute a rim cud? Could be more obvious with the coin in hand and/or other (better) pictures, but I've now seen a few coins that are either listed or not that have (no offense) rather m...

Re: The language of the letter

Looking forward to hearing an official response but my understanding is it needs a full break to be a 9C. If there is no full break as shown in the plate photo it is simply a 9. I see what you see and mean, but any validated decision is above my pay grade! Similar in nature to the 78-S VAM-46 and 46...
