Have not seen this one before. It’s interesting how the design creates weak points in the die that cause breaks to occur in some of the same or nerarly the same locations like the Y in Liberty.
Does that break go all the way across to the forehead from Y?

Morgan Grading Question
I was looking through ANA grading standards for Morgan’s and I did not see any mention of weak strike consideration. I was wondering if any of the grading companies take into consideration weak strikes when grading? Does it matter if the date mm is typically weak compared to a date that is not typic...

Reminds me of that double struck picture a while back. I suppose strike doubling and double struck are cousins.

Always good to know the correct terminology. I was thinking bun, but it appears to be apex or crown?

Based on the surrounding features having the same doubling it looks to be strike/machine doubling rather than a re-punched mm.

It’s the 87-O 30A. The clash above Dollar in leaves shows enough to know what it is.

Low grade attribution on ANACS holder
Was wondering about very low grade varieties that the letter transfer is not visible, however many of the clashes that are only present on the particular variety can be seen. Would it still be AOH as the variety?

Privately Made Question
Are there theories or facts as to why the contemporary counterfeits (privately made) that are listed appear to first start with 1893 date?

I don't have a vice set up so I use 20" Channel Lock Pliers to control the amount of force to limit the amount of shatter.

Yes Roger, Thank you for the research you do that many of us are either unable or unwilling to do. Thank you for taking the time to share with us the information that opens up the small windows in time that we can understand more about the process and events that influenced the minting of coins.

Great to see these correspondence, thanks for sharing Roger.
