(4) 1921-D scribbles help needed

Searched the 1921-D scribbles guide twice, but came up empty. Can anyone else give it a try? Otherwise they go to messydesk for evaluation. Thanks in advance! Coin #1: Multiple photos, because there are scribbles going in several different directions. 1921-D raw #1 scribbles 1.jpg 1921-D raw #1 scri...

Re: 1880 S DMPL

The only way to find out is to have it regraded somewhere. And that won't be cheap. When you consider postage to get it there, grading cost, and especially return postage, it will add up to $50 or more pretty quickly. The obverse certainly looks better than 61 in the photo, but I'm suspicious about ...

Re: 1878s Top 30 Rarity List

Defining "rarity" is a huge can of worms.

Is the list you have in mind going to look at date+mint mark alone, or will it take grade-PL-DMPL into consideration? For example, all 10 of the Long Nock VAMs are exquisitely rare in any Mint State grade.

one of a kind GSA?

I think so. The single 1889 and 1893 Carson City Morgans that made it into hard pack GSA holders are and always will be more famous, more desirable, and more valuable. But this 1902 Micro-O in a GSA soft pack may also be just one of a kind. A dealer friend showed fogie and me this incredible unicorn...

Re: CAC is the next new grading company

It will be fascinating to see how a CAC grading service is able to exist in a world in which the PCGS Registry program is a 600-lb. gorilla. I say that because it's extraordinarily unlikely that CAC coins will be accepted in PCGS Registry sets.

Re: 1878s Top 30 Rarity List

No interest here; already there are Top 30 and Top 30 complete sets, not based just on rarity. Population reports in SSDC registry for individual varieties are not entirely accurate either as lots of collectors don’t participate. What you're talking about is a "fewest registered" set – which can of...

Re: value 21-d

I have no previous sales info for 1H3, but it's a desirable coin -- and especially if the obverse cud is very advanced. I'm looking for one for my personal set. Here's everything I have for 1K2: 1921-D 1K2 64 NGC May-22 E $499 1921-D 1K2 63 PCGS Jul-21 E $300 1921-D 1K2 63 ANACS Jul-21 E $225 1921-D...

It never seems to take much encouragement to get Fogie to buy a silver dollar he doesn't already have!
(He does have a Zerbe already... but it's a lowly P.)

Re: Need Help with 1921, broken E Obv

Interesting!!

I hesitate to say the coin isn't real. But it is very odd that metal flow lines appear to extend into the area where the missing part of the E is.

I'd like to hear what @messydesk and @vampicker have to say about this.

yet another PCGS "oops"

Holder errors are fun. Most can be understood to some degree, like when 1883 gets keyed in as 1888, or one of the digits in the serial number prefix is typed in slightly wrong, or a mint mark gets overlooked. But this holder error is ridiculous: small 35884604 obv.jpg small 35884604 LFCP obv.jpg The...

Re: F/u on JB's 91-O 1A2 purchase...

That's the coin. But just to clarify...
The coin was identified by PCGS and advertised by Heritage as a VAM 1A (1A1), which the SSDC value guide lists at $400, so John did some sharp cherrypicking on this coin.
