Re: found this on a 2021-CC

If they are indeed flakes that broke off the die, they would seem to have broken off before the "dead luster" was applied to the dies.

Hoping you get well soon. Sounds like you won't have much use for that booster.

Re: 2021-O Polished Die?

If there is full detail there on others, then it would seem more likely to be a weak hubbing. It wouldn't surprise me if the dies weren't polished at all, rather simply given their uniformly bland luster after being hubbed.

Re: 1887 o vam help (Mitch vam 43?)

I don't see anything that makes me say anything but VAM 1. Date and mint mark are in the normal position and orientation, and neither have doubling that I can see. Is there any doubling on the stars, profile, eye, or ear?

I'll take "Things you don't want to see at your doctor's office" for $800, Alex.

Re: 1878-P VAM-8 die and machine doubling? And extra pictures for the page

The combination of a doubled die and machine doubling is best seen on the E you show above. 8TF reverses are full of doubling, and to describe it all would introduce too much noise into the description, especially on VAM 8, where there are easily identified pickups. This would make it more difficult...

There are a lot of groups on Facebook wherein people will ask about something and someone will tell them to get it graded. Blind leading the blind all over the place.

Re: 2022 Proof Morgan's and Peace Dollars

The technical people have been advised of several short comings, including their "sandpaper" frosting. However, nothing is likely to change unless a new director demands it. I would bet that any engraver given the opportunity to recreate 19th century craftsmanship would jump at the chance. Pity it ...

They're going to be that nasty, 60-grit cameo junk the mint has been putting out over the past 15 years. Not really looking forward to it.

Gen 1 holder. The coin is irrelevant. The thing is, it's not the earliest dog matrix printer, even though it is a 108xxxx serial number.

It looks like the break goes rim-to-rim, which is what VAM 15B specifies, so I'd say 15B.

VAMWorld isn't a place that someone can ship coins to. Start with pictures of the engraved feathers under the eagle's wings.

Keep an eye on it and see what it goes for. There's probably a critical mass of 21-D sheared rim strike-thrus out there that'll drive up both interest in these errors and price.

Box #3 arrived today. And by coincidence so did the Visa bill. Still haven't opened anything, but I paid the bill. I guess the next step is PCGS. If you're looking to get (i.e., pay $18 a pop extra for) the First Strike™ label, the guidance on their web site states that there is no need to mail any...
