Re: 1878 Dies used, Philadelphia

I take it from the 0 obverses for nickels that these numbers do not include proof dies.

Re: 1921 VAM-3CE Rim Cud?

It's too minor to warrant revising the listing to include it. Die chips on the rim are usually not noticed or ignored until they start encroaching on the denticles. Being on the rim, they're also susceptible to being worn away on AU coins.

Re: Poor Old wore out Peace dollar

What kind of shape are the reeds in? If the coin suffered a rim deformation, you might see it there. Hard to make the call on this being a cud, this coin being in a rather advanced state of decrepitude, although I can see what the seller wants to call a cud. If you paid junk box money, there's reall...

While it's too bad you can't average the 43 and 45 into a 44, they're both decent varieties.

Re: 1885-P Official VAM Listings

I noticed this morning that VAM 1E is now VAM 30A, I tried to change them to VAM 30A but there isn't a listing for VAM 30A only VAM 30. Can someone correct this please. Thanks, Mike That was fast. I assume you're referring to changing coins in the SSDC Registry. Brent can take care of this ( fogie ...

I'd have to see the coins in hand to make that call. There seem to be similarities. Does yours have the spike on the beak mentioned for VAM 13B?

Re: Morgan dollars or debased Pesos ?

Interesting. I would think that if they were being instructed to coin something other than Morgan dollars (i.e., billon pesos), the word "dollars" would have been strictly avoided. It looks like close to 1.5M pesos dated 1897-A were made in Philadelphia from 1897-99. The records of delivery of 1899 ...

Try a low, raking light for the scribble zone to see if anything becomes visible.

I replied on your PCGS board post, but I wanted to add something here. If you want to get them all graded, assuming the coins are indeed all BU, you could submit them to me to add to a PCGS bulk order that I'm accumulating. The grading fees would be a small fraction of what they'd be if you sent the...

Not sure what it's referencing. It's part of a comment that was transferred from the old VW and is not part of the specification.

Re: 1878-S Update Complete

John, thanks for all you do for the hobby. When you get a chance would you look into the 1879 VAM 14A die 1 and die 2. I sent the VAM 14A die 2 that added the clashed "st" to Leroy. Leroy's Revision Letter he is attached to the listing. I didn't understand it then and I still can't wrap my mind aro...

Re: Seeing stars (and more) - can you guess the VAM?

A perhaps odd question but if there is letter transfer on the VAM-18 obverse that then fades over time, creating a non-letter transferred version, would then there be two listable varieties? Like when other non-letter transferred variants get the letter transferred by a clash that then fades to the...

Thanks John, This is a major task that will help us with keeping new VAMers. The 'die set 2' issue has caused me confusion more than once and can lead to frustration for that can turn someone off, What's your next major date/mm to tackle? If there are some that are particularly problematic for coll...
