yes quite strange most of this particular vam I have seen have a poor strike.

while searching through Ebay and online photos it became apparent the 1880 vam 39a generally has a poor strike. I couldn't really find any info online talking about it though. I got quite a few close ups and mostly all had a poor strike. Is this a correct assumption ? this coin has more of a greasy ...

Appreciate your thoughts on this coin.It is not attributed but it looks like either 36 or 36a. It looks like there is something where the partial e clash would be but hard to see and not much there. Maybe a late die state 36A?
Anyways I think I got a bargain on this one regardless of the vam .

Might be too early for VAM 11A as shown. I see a lot with the cracks like that, but there needs to be wider breaks for VAM 11A. What complicates things is that the 11A discovery coin was VF, and the thickness of the breaks might be due to wear on the coin. I've been calling coins like yours VAM 11A...
