Help- 1880-S Doubled date, medium S centered and upright, slightly high Multiple lettering. Clashed die no letters
Help with 1880-S Doubled date, medium S centered and upright, slightly high Doubled/tripled/quadrupled lettering. Clashed die - no letter transfer. Got this PCGS MS64 from a recent Heritage auction as I thought the S looked funky (some of it due to smudges on the slab) but more interesting is that i...

Re: 1890 O mm set right help
From what I can see your coin does look like the VAM-13B that UNCLE BINGO suggested. The die chip under the low spot of the bow on left looks similar but other pointed to things are not as clear in pic. Check for other pick ups to confirm. The VAM-13B description of High 0 Set Right is wrong as the ...

Re: Date placement querry to the experts
Not an expert by any means but using the Date Placement Indexing System (DPIS) from the Morgan VAM Attribution Guide 101 page I get: LH3_B45C Date placement querry 14Nov22 Gred.jpg LEB1 = LH3 (Left half of third denticle) REB1 = B45C (Between 4th and 5th denticles, centered) Normal date placement To...

Re: (somewhat blinded) Mint mark research question: What'd you call this?
I agree that location and orientation of the MM would not be an adequate way to ID a VAM. However, when there are so many possible VAMs on a page it can sometimes be a way to narrow the field. I still think that when a MM is at or beyond the crossing line it is High or Low and there is some room for...

1878-S VAM-69 Add Pictures and Comments to Page Please When I see attributes on a coin that are not listed on its VAM page I tend to want to point them out to others so they don’t waste time chasing a ‘discovery’. I think a VAM’s page should be as comprehensive as we can make it and this won’t add t...

I like it! I have been looking at bursting olives on some but not all 1878 and 1879 VAMs and think it is also a hubbing variation.

Re: 1879 CC Not listed double CC help
I have the same issue with many VAMs. The original discovery coins list some, but not all, points of interest. The CC below from the Page shows doubling and the lighting isn't best.
As mentioned before your coin took a few hits too.- Mon Oct 10, 2022 11:00 pm

Re: 1879-S Alligator Eye, Doubled Date, Closed 9, Engraved Leaves, S/S left, Set Low, Need Help
Thanks! that is it. I had looked at VAM-28 several times but dismissed it since the doubling in the 7 was not in the description or picture. The 8 doubling is minor but the 7 was as obvious as the 9s doubling on my coin. I have a later die state as the 3rd star right on the page FCP is only slightly...

Re: 1881 S questions
MM location is slightly different for your pics as show below. The VAM-38 page states for Comment 1: This obverse shared with VAM-9, VAM-10, and VAM-38. Since we know the first submission was a VAM-38 only two choices are left for the second coin. Unfortunately VAM-9 has no MM pic. However, VAM-10 h...
