Re: Explaination for handling and reissue of reverse dies

Very interesting. We know there are quite a few 1881-S reverse with fine pittings.

Re: 1888-P VAM7 stage help, please?

Jonnie - in my opinion, what you have is VAM-7B. VAM-7 series really needs an overhaul. I have a 7A and 7D if anyone wants to borrow and get the entire series back to Leroy for his review.

Re: 1888-P VAM7 stage help, please?

Stage 1 (VAM-7) - has a nice a clear gouges above left wing up to UST. Stage 1.5 - I think this is your coin. Stage 2 (VAM-7A) - is what posted on VAM-7A page with the gouge lines added as describe on the page. Now the confusing part: Stage 3 (VAM-7B) - description on reverse: "Lines above eagle’s l...

Re: 1888 P Morgan with VAM-1B...and more?

If you want to self attribute a "P" mint morgan (1883-1904), you need to starts with the date position. You'll see that list gets narrow down tremendously.

Truly amazing and unique.
Reminds me of 98o v20 as being another unique piece.
Very, very cool!

Re: Odd things on 1921-P D1s

Great die study Dennis.
Out of 44mil+ mintage, I'm sure they have a few working hub made for each D1 and D2 reverse.
Not sure if they minted D1 or D2 first.
But your study shows that apparently they also do not share Obv working hub.

Re: more help needed for 1879-S

Nice v98 reverse.

Big thanks to Juan for his die study. More and more data from the study shows for 79s they don't have enough rev dies. They use and reuse the rev die on multiple obverse for many of them. Which makes sense why they ended up using rev 78 dies.

Re: 1879-S Help please!!!

Date doubling shown somewhat not the same, but I think that's due to pmd or die slide or something else.
For sure, ALL of the die polishing lines matched exactly.

Brent,
All of your photos on this post is correct for v86.
Also, all photos on v86 page (looks like JB's) are also correct.
