Seems like a 3. The clincher I think would be the line(s) above the arrowheads and near the left foot as viewed in the VAM 3 listing. GL

Delete: I was looking at the wrong (1888-O) listing.

There are more die pairs in his study identified than are currently listed in the VAM catalog, so there are new die pairs out there that could be listed. I'm not sure that this is one of them. Thanks JB. Is that die pair study material available to me? If not, what would you do if in my shoes? VM 2...

Why is it that everything with new comers seems to be a new discovery? I encourage enthusiasm, but get tired of the constant "discovery?" question.

Yea I get it. I have a problem understanding many of the "die progession" discussions. Unless you have physical possession of the dies and can match them to a in-service log, to include when die maintenance was accomplished, I find the science suspect. But for all I know, somebody has done just that...

Thanks for those pictures. I'm confident our wing-neck gaps match. Not as confident about the upper tail feathers but bending the light can work wonders. I may try to match that up later. I also agree with what you said about the eye. I feel better about it being a 5 now.

Went thru all VAMs twice and ruled out everything. Wings, wreaths all clean. No cracks or gouges. No polishing lines. This one will be marked a 5 for now with a note to send to JB in the future. I thought the ribbon was pretty cool. Thanks for the prodding keilg1.
