Re: Getting All of Us Back
Your comments are on track, especially with regard to participation. Prices for VAMs have to be directly related to demand and our best course of action is to grow the hobby.

Getting All of Us Back
It seems to me that the required redo and move of VW gave us a great opportunity to clean up everything and especially the member list. I know from reading these posts over the years that there were people with more than one ID and I am sure with the average age of our group more than one collector ...

Re: 81o w/ Heavily Beveled Liberty Bust
I think I am ready to agree with Mitch. All the V57 coins I have (3) have the area behind the ear where the metal does no seem to flow right into the die and you wind up with this poorly defined hair as it goes toward the ear. This coin has that feature and I think Mitch is right on target.

Re: 81o w/ Heavily Beveled Liberty Bust
I am still getting use to the new forum and these images still seem to be limited in size to view. How about a closeup of the ear and area below where the hair meets the outside of the ear.

Re: 81o w/ Heavily Beveled Liberty Bust
Not to beat a dead horse, but there are a lot of features here that fit with V57, but I would like to see a larger full shot of the obverse. Something doesn't look quite right when I compare it to the discovery coin. Can we get a large full coin on the obverse?

1881-O Update for August
I neglected to post that the July and August updates for the 1881-O web site are there, but there hasn't been a lot happening. I think I was in a funk waiting on this site to come through the transition, and I have a lot of cleanup work to do that will go on through September. http://www.1881o.com/2...

Re: 1881-O Update for June
I was not aware when I started all this of the difficulty we put on LVA with the single coin submission and I have the greatest admiration for what he accomplishes based on his experience and knowledge. I limited my focus to just one date/mint so I could focus and learn, but I think that approach ha...

1881-O Update for June
I think it is a permanent learning curve. VAMing is open ended and thinking you understand everything is a mind numbing experience. Obviously I am focused very narrowly and I still struggle with many things.

Re: coin collecting app
I am also gun shy about data loss and for that reason I find Excel very easy. I tried the PCGS site and it works fine and has the advantage of updating prices. But in the case of VAMs they do not track prices and if I have to do them manually I want to stick with Excel. Then there is the exposure of...

Re: coin collecting app
Over the years purchased and tried every available program for my PC. After all those tries I finally decided to try my own using MS Access. This worked but was a pain to maintain. So I have come around to using Excel and I think it is the best answer since it is easily customizable to your needs. I...

1881-O Update for June
http://www.1881o.com/2018-06.html Well I am back in the saddle so to speak and starting to catch up. I just posted the update above and think this is a good one. I finished up (or took it as far as my knowledge can go) the look at the VAM sequence for the 20, 1J, 1H, 40 can go. But along the way I f...
